USA Today"Abe was just 53 when he first started Barney Miller. But he just had that demeanor that made him look tired and old and he played it so well that you believed he was actually old. He wasn't," Linden said. "One of the last times I saw him was at this 90th birthday party a few years ago...He was the same, you still couldn't get him off the microphone.
"We lost a great character today. Boy, did we ever."
Meanwhile, journalists, TV talk hosts, even New York politicians were mourning on Twitter.
For years, the question of whether Vigoda was still alive was a running joke, sparked more than 30 years ago by a false report of his death. (Linden explained it happened in 1982 after the Barney Miller wrap party, when a gossip columnist reported that "the late Abe Vigoda" wasn't there.)
Later, after the dawn of the Internet, there was a website devoted to answering the much-Googled question, "Is Abe Vigoda dead?"
On Tuesday, it had been updated, with a stark white screen and just the word "Yes" and the date of his death.

(111,235 posts)1. Now this one makes me very sad
Vigoda was one of the best, a character actor who could describe an adversary's ancestry, anatomy, proclivities and ultimate destination with a single look.
I'm glad he had a long life. I will miss him.

I know, shit's real this time.
Sorry to hear of it. Never missed Barney Miller, and Fish was definitely one of the best things about it.
