http://thegrio.com/2014/12/22/study-southern-white-people-more-black-dna/In an ironic twist, a new study has found that some of the states with the most racial tension are also the ones where the most white people have black ancestors. The findings published this month in the American Journal of Human Genetics found that whites in the South were far more likely to have black ancestry than any other part of the country....
Whats also worth noting is the genders of the specific people responsible for some Americans mixed ancestry. A whopping 19 percent of the ancestors of self-identified black people were European male, while only 5 percent were European females. This racial mixing generally occurred in the early 1800s, when slavery was legal, further validating what historians know about white slave owners raping enslaved women who descended from Africa.
And this does not include the many mixed-race people in Louisiana who identify as Creole.

(23,664 posts)My mom and dad were born in Tennessee and Oklahoma respectively. The story was that my father's grandmother was half Cherokee and half black.
Well, I had one of those DNA tests and it turns out that I have no African DNA. At all. Zero, zilch, nada.
I'm not making a value judgment, simply saying if you have a question, there are ways to verify.

(10,345 posts)I'm pretty certain I've got black genes in my bloodline for the following reasons...
1. My irish ancestry may have been enslaved alongside black people.
2. My last name is more common in black families than it is in white.
Neat.

(278 posts)and you take into account the fact that geneticist now say that the vast majority of modern day Europeans and their descendants (Euro-Americans) have some Neanderthal DNA, it could explain why people from this region created and sustained White Supremacist Groups. Northern Whites did the same thing but they were less overt.

(1,587 posts)In my father's family, they were Quakers who would buy slaves and take care of them until they could legally be freed. One man was so grateful he took the family's last name, and so I have what I consider to be black cousins. Since I have a rather large amount of Native American ancestry, to learn that there was a more biological connection with blacks wouldn't be surprising.
