January bumper sticker count

Ok kids, when life hands you a lemon, make lemonade.

Got stuck at work with a project which had me driving between southern Washington and Sacramento twice a week all month. To keep it interesting, I started to keep track of who's bumper stickers I saw.

Finished my final trip last night, and here is the tally.

Bernie 6

Trump. 5

Hillary. 2

The rest were zero.

I leave it to you to draw a conclusion.

1. Thank you for doing that

Wish trump stickers weren't so high. Hopefully you will let us know if you go on other trips. It is definitely a worthwhile 'study'

2. Started as a way of combatting boredom

Then it became interesting and not what I expected. Thought I would see more Hillary and less Trump in the Pacific Northwest.

Will update if I get another road assignment.

3. Here in Austin I've seen 2 Trump, 2 Hillary-including one from 2008 and about 20 Bernie.

4. Conclusion: your count of bumper stickers is not representative of political support.

If it were, you'd have seen roughly 4 for Clinton, 2 each for Trump and Sanders, 1 for Cruz, and 1 for either Rubio or Carson.

5. Yep, meaningless.

Not to mention that there are a lot of us who don't understand the need to advertise any sort of beliefs, political or otherwise, on the backs of our vehicles. Furthermore, those of us who live in right-wing hellholes certainly don't want to risk having our cars or trucks vandalized by putting putting a bumper sticker supporting ANY Democrat, be they Hillary, Bernie or Martin. The same goes for yard signs.

That being said, in my town, the childhood home of Lee Atwater, I have seen a grand total of: 1 Clinton, 1 Sanders, 1 Trump, 1 Carson, 1 Cruz, and a homemade "Huckabee/Palin" in huge letters on the back of a pick-up truck Read into that however you want. I think the relative lack of bumper stickers says a whole lot more.

6. It might show enthusiasm instead of mere support

People might be so excited about Bernie, while others will vote for Hillary.

More individuals have donated to Bernie although Hillary has raised more total money.

I'd rather have enthusiasm instead of begrudging support any day.

7. No, it doesn't and couldn't show anything.

It's wholly unscientific and statistically meaningless.
