Charles P. Pierce: The Republican Debate Finally Proved It's Not Trump Who Has Lost His Mind

How does that freak show not blow up the party's claim to have serious policies to help govern the country? How does that carnival of unimaginative invective add up to a governing philosophy? How does that massive, chewy clusterfck add up to a single rational moment of human thought? I don't care if these guys believe in evolution or not, but they at least should try to demonstrate while they're on TV that, somehow, we've come a respectable distance as a species since we tottered out of Olduvai Gorge. I've seen better organized riots. I've heard more coherent dialogue from cats mating in an alley. I once heard a squirrel being eaten by a coyote. The squirrel had better manners while it was being devoured, and was better spoken besides. Christ above, somebody separate these clowns before they hurt their brains some more. Tailgunner Ted Cruz said more than he knows, not least because he doesn't know what "literally" means.

Well, there it was, on a stage in South Carolina, the prion disease that has been afflicting the Republican party since Ronald Reagan first fed it the monkeybrains almost 40 years ago broke out into the general population.

These are SERIOUS QUESTIONS. They should be asked (in these exact words) by every Democrat in office. And every voter.

The GOP hasn't done any governing for 16 years now. SIXTEEN YEARS. Girls born to conservative families when they stopped doing any governing are now old enough to go to those creepy Father/Daughter purity dance thingies! It's taken less time for New Horizons to reach Pluto!

a damning commentary on the pitiful state of the Republican Party and on American stupidity in general. How dumb does a person have to be to want to cast a ballot for any of these morons? And there are millions who do. Makes me embarrassed to be a US citizen.

"God, it was great television, though. They should have held the damn thing in an octagon"

With all due respect, comparing UFC fighters to the GOP clown car is an insult The only way the UFC should be involved in this as if all thoses clowns were thrown into the Octagon with the likes of Chuck Mcgregor, Ronda Rousey, Jon "bones" Jones and Vanderlei Silva. Give the UFC fighter titanium brass knuckles, and in five minutes, the world would be a better places as the clowns would be sent to join Fat Tony Scalia in Hell.

Sarcasm flag to appease the wilting flowers.

Very few of the .1% do not consider making money their religion. This kind of freedom of religion is very important to them. There are few examples of empathetic, more socially conscience billionaires like Warren Buffett or Bill Gates. No, God put them on earth to use as much of their progressively enlarging capital to make even more capital. Just watch Shark Tank. Cuban always waits for the Big money deals. Even if some business idea is proven, if it doesn't make, by the time they go to ST, over $100,000 a year, he is OUT.

And Republicans are overall the most prostrate towards them of all the politicians. They will squeeze as much from average American tax dollars to hand to them, or cut as much as they can from their already low tax "burden".

I missed this debate. I thought about watching it on YouTube but... I don't know if I want to risk the loss of brain cells. Republicans debating can lower the IQ. I have seen it happen to people on a steady diet of Fox News.

But it sounds like it was hilariously horrifying.. or horrifyingly hilarious.

I think they are using Sarah Palin as their debate mentor.
