The size of the eye on that thing! Good grief. It isn't bad enough that they were France's testing grounds for nuclear bombs and subjugation for decades, now they are in the direct line of behemoths like this. Not looking ofrward to the headline about that tomorrow.

From the link in OP:

Climate change and Fiji
Storm surge from Winston is of particular concern for Fiji, where sea level rise and coastal erosion have already begun to displace people. The nation includes more than 300 islands; some are volcanic in origin, while many of the smaller islands are low-lying coral atolls especially vulnerable to sea level rise. The nation has already assisted one small village, Vunidogolo, in moving to a new location as part of its climate change adaptation program. More than 30 other Fijian villages have been identified as vulnerable.

that's a powerful one.

I'll be sending my good thoughts their way. Not sure how much good it'll do in the face of that monster though.

The most powerful storm to hit Fiji has made landfall on the Pacific nation's main island, Viti Levu.

Cyclone Winston brought winds of over 320 kph (200 mph), torrential rain and waves of up to 12m (40ft).

Flights have been cancelled, evacuation centres activated and a nationwide curfew put in place.

The category five storm - the highest level - is expected to move westwards over the main island overnight Saturday and into Sunday morning.
