Senator Sessions has already endorsed Trump. Others will follow suit. Standing up to a bully takes courage and I just don't see Republicans doing that. Look at Chris Christie. He has already endorsed Trump.

(43,889 posts)Plus, Paul Ryan is Speaker of the House; third in line. If he takes out both Trump and his VP, then he becomes President just as Gerald Ford became President after forcing Spiro Agnew and Dick Nixon to resign.

Trump will need to take specific action(s) to be impeached.
What I do expect should Trump be elected POTUS is a strong (in powers) Cabinet with more delegation from Trump than any earlier POTUS.
I also would expect a strong in power and activity VPOTUS, even more so than Cheney.
An effort would be made to concentrate power in the Executive, GWB/Cheney's Unitary Executive.
Trump wants to be king not POTUS.
I posted earlier that I would not be surprised if Ryan ended up the "strong" VPOTUS candidate at the GOP convention.
That is one way the GOP can restrain Trump.

Fun fact: Mom went to Towson High School outside Baltimore with Agnew's daughter Pam -- and with Divine!

(43,889 posts)And I'm not saying he did it alone; he was no Nixon.
What I am saying is that the party which he headed decided Nixon had to go. and they also knew that they could not allow Spiro to become President. So the process required Spiro to go first, Ford to become VP, and then Nixon to resign so that Ford became President.
Arguing about whether Ford, specifically, engineered the whole thing is a distinction that makes no difference. The point is you take out the P & VP at the same time and Paul Ryan becomes President. That would not be a totally unpleasing outcome to him.

(24,461 posts)A White House, Congress and eventually, a Supreme Court filled with wealth enablers as far as the eye can see, so they can dole out more lotteries, tax cuts and worker-screwing legislation to the rich (who'll then subsequently automate or layoff everyone into a destitute oblivion)? They're going to say "no" to that?

(11,619 posts)An impeachment must begin in the House and is successful on a simple majority. Once successful, the trial is held in the Senate, with 66 votes required to remove the President from office. Republicans control the House.
So, as long as there is a Republican House, even if they don't like Trump, they are not going to impeach him. Because the Senate requires 66 votes to remove the President from office, there is no way Democrats would control a sufficient majority in the Senate to achieve an impeachment.

(21,846 posts)what makes you think that the electorate will elect a Congress that would be anti-Trump? Or even if sufficient members hated him, would they be afraid of backlash from the electorate that had elected Trump?
Traditional wisdom really doesn't apply anymore. Something odd is going on.
