Why Trump's trade case is working for him

http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/why-trumps-trade-case-is-working-for-him/article/2584646

"We're not going to be the stupid people anymore," Donald Trump promised the crowd in Southwest Virginia, where manufacturing jobs have slowly dried up over the past few decades. "We're going to be the brilliant people."

"We're going to be the people that create jobs for our country — not for China, and not for Mexico."

Trump's anti-free trade stance underlies much of his appeal to a core constituency: the working-class voters who have been absent from both parties until Trump.

...

This is a direct appeal to the working class, which has seen wages fall in recent decades while the rest of the economy generally has grown. "Donald Trump will do more for the middle class and low-income workers" than any other candidate, former Rep. Virgil Goode said before the rally Monday. "It's time we had a president who stood up for American workers first," Goode said before blasting free trade.

Ah,, yes the falling worker wages that republicans have assisted in the falling, that sent the factory and jobs to China. The same people that have been destroying Union wages and benefits. That have taxpayers paying wages for corporations who refuse to meet minimum wage and benefits. Who opposed worker strikers seeking a fair wage. Who refused Obama's workers bill.

Then this Goode says, "Donald Trump will do more for the middle class and low-income workers" than any other candidate,. "It's time we had a president who stood up for American workers first,"

Well Mr. Googe, where has the republican party been for the last 24 years? Hint: Outsourcing is a good thing!!!!

when it comes to how we treat American workers.

He may have, at one time, taken some leftist positions on social issues like abortion or whatever, but he has never given a shit about anybody but himself.

To think that Trump would do anything to help middle and lower class Americans takes for too much willful ignorance for this tired old liberal to take in one dose.

Long live Calvin Coolidge and Herbert Hoover! And who was this FDR guy who liberals claim did so much to reverse the damage done by Coolidge and Hoover?

'Trickle down' economics and 'retaliatory tariffs' may not have worked in the past but, to the republican brain, surely they will work in the future. They 'sound' so logical regardless of the 'lies' told by liberals and history books.

All that means that Donald is a smart man and knows what the republican base wants to hear. It is working for him.

Also if you'll note Carney puts a pretty balanced view of trade in his piece, noting that economists from Friedman to Krugman are in favor.

Also this is not an op-ed, since he works for the Examiner.

8. 'Op Ed' is what it is, his being employed by them does not make his opinion piece into factual

reporting, that is not the metric. In addition, you will find this piece at the Examiner under "Opinion" as this link demonstrates. It's commentary.

11. Well, no, it's not an op-ed if it's written by an employee

And more to the point it wasn't run opposite the editorial, so, no: it's an opinion piece by a staff writer, which is neither an editorial nor an op-ed.

parties have been pushing the idea for decades that free trade is the ultimate rising tide that will lift all boats. Of course, there have always been some exceptions to this - Bernie's frequent use of the phrase "insane trade policies" has clearly been resonating with a significant number of people.

How Barack Obama Is Bankrupting You and Enriching His Wall Street Friends, Corporate Lobbyists, and Union Bosses"
http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/obamanomics-timothy-p-carney/1110905064

"Timothy P. Carney digs up the dirt the mainstream media ignores and the White House wishes you wouldn’t see. Rather than Hope and Change, Obama is delivering corporate socialism to America, all while claiming he’s battling corporate America. It’s corporate welfare and regulatory robbery—it’s Obamanomics.

Congressman Ron Paul says, “Every libertarian and free-market conservative needs to read Obamanomics.” And Johan Goldberg, columnist and bestselling author says, “Obamanomics is conservative muckraking at its best and an indispensable field guide to the Obama years.”
