"Tells it like it is"

Last edited Wed Mar 2, 2016, 08:39 PM - Edit history (1)

I so hate this phrase. I saw some exit polls from yesterday and large portion of Trump voters gave that as a reason why they voted for him... because he "tells it like it is". To me that says they don't have any solid reason for voting for him. They just like the crazy, sensational stuff that comes of his mouth. I always think when I hear someone utter this phrase that what they really mean is that he "tells it like how they think it is or want it to be" which isn't the same as how it actually is. These people that use the phase "tell it like it is" seem to be the ones that are the least in touch with how things actually are. They have a totally warped concept of reality. Does this bother anyone else?

Their thought and conduct are not reality-based.

Resistance to science, reading, education, and other things intellectual does not help.

Gut feelings without brains. Not homo sapiens.

Human beings think it's 12:15pm somewhere right now, on something called March 2nd, on something called Wednesday, in the year 2016. None of that actually exists anywhere outside of the human mind. Just like these words.

"tells it like how they think it is or want it to be"

If you agree with something, it's correct and right. If you disagree with something, it's incorrect and wrong. That's what we know reality to be. We're all biased toward our own minds. If you think something is right or good, of course it's right or good, because who would be dumb enough to be incorrect and wrong? It's always the people you disagree with that are stupid.

What the hell we're we thinking anyhow? Geeze, I tell you I'd love to not be a part of this bullshit most days. I think I would have been better off being a cat.

I don't think that people that disagree with me are stupid. They are stupid if they can't come up with an adequate reason for their decisions and I happen to think "tells it like it is" falls short of being a good reason. It doesn't mean much to me, especially since it can be used to describe just about anyone. Bernie tells it like it is. Hillary tells it like it is. I tell it like it is. You tell it like it is. I just think it is kind of a shitty, non-descriptive reason to give for choosing a candidate for president. Why don't they just say what "it" is. I just hate the phrase. I suppose it is intended to mean something like "I agree with most of what the guy says". I still just hate the phrase because I find the people that say it tend to not provide any more details when asked, as if "tells it like it is" is the end of the story.

Basically these voters feel "voiceless "

Its not a long read but it really identifies why people are voting for him

Every time I hear someone say, "HE TELLS IT LIKE IT IS" I know what he or she is actually saying is that, "FINALLY, I can be a racist and not have to be ashamed of it!" These poor bigots have been hiding in the dark, voiceless, for YEARS! Thankfully King Orange the Fascist is leading them out of their holes with sweet-sounding hateful rhetoric and completely illusory promises of making MURCA great again.

Sorry to be repetitive, but that's exactly what pops into my head when I hear that stupidity.

I really didn't think about it like that at all, but now that you said that, I can see what you are saying. It would make sense that they would not just come out and say what they really mean in this circumstance. They'd use some dumb code phrase to say they are down with the racism, sexism, etc.

These folks honestly feel like they are the victims because of all the DAMN PC CRAP that's overwhelming us. Just think about it:

Gays can be who they are now. GAH!
You can't beat your wife anymore. ACK!
Brown folks have rights! OY!

This is the MURCA King Orange the Fascist is singing Sirens Songs to when he gets up there and yaps into the microphone. This is the 'great' MURCA that King Orange the Fascist wants to return to, as cynical as it is and as dangerous as it is to say these things to these rubes.

I think people blow that out of proportion. To me, that doesn't rank as a problem we need to be concerned about. I have no problem with being PC because it is mostly just being polite and considerate of other people. I don't think we are crippled by that at all.

The fact that it's now unacceptable to treat gay folks or brown folks horribly and as if they don't have rights is not PC. It's basic human decency. To me PC is something entirely different, but to these asshats ANYTHING that offends their backwards, hateful and fear-filled ideology is PC RUN AMOK. I hate that too.

Just telling it like it is.

Its how RW Talk-show hosts make a living: point out every place government is failing. Like shooting fish in a barrel.

GOVERNING is hard. Doing things instead of criticizing.

Trump, like his voters, is a simpleton who thinks the Presidency is going to be easy. It's not. Its the worst job in the world. Look what happened last time a simpleton had the office: 9/11 and Iraq.

His criticisms aren't going to automatically transition into problems solved if he becomes president. Solving problems is a lot harder than identifying problems. Some of the "solutions" I heard that Trump has proposed, like the wall, sound wasteful and not effective. I haven't been paying all that much attention to him lately, so maybe he's had some decent ideas about some things. I wouldn't know. He sounds like a jerk to me. I've never liked the man. I didn't even like him in the 80's, back when I was a little kid. I remember seeing him on Lifestyle's of the Rich and Famous back then... reason enough for me to never like him.
