When Trump insults Hillary or Bill during the GE Debate

she should just smile and laugh a little, and then say; "Is that all you got? look, I had ignorant, angry old white men insulting me and yelling at me for 11 and a half hours and they left the room with their tails between their legs...you're nothing!"

and then just brush some lint off her shoulder.

from tearing ourselves in opposite directions as a party. (This may also be the GOP's problem but I'm going to focus on our problem...because it's not our problem either if the GOP can't fix theirs.)

There is a solid 20% of Democrats (not DINOs, Democrats that also IDed to pollsters as having voted in 2008 and 2012 for Obama or having a favorable opinion of the President) that have consistently told pollsters they will not vote for Hillary, regardless who she is running against, if she's the nominee. Based on my own anecdotal experience, I suspect that number is about the same for Sanders.

So, we have a problem. We have a decisive amount of active Democrats that won't vote for Hillary, either because they believe the scandals or because she refuses to embrace Sanders economics...and we probably have a similarly decisive amount that won't vote for Sanders because they're economic-moderates (mostly center/center-right) and social liberals, so if they can't get Hillary, the GOP is their next best choice as long as that GOP nominee is socially-moderate, as Trump is perceived to be on many issues.

We may not just need the 10% that decide elections...we need that 10% plus another 20% of independents or GOP defectors.

Trump has a formidable talent for finding a person's chink and then smashing it.

HRC has significant baggage and Trump's been friends with the Clintons for years so he personally knows it. I fear him in a debate with her frankly. She gets defensive and prickly when attacked like that which looks terrible

Thu Mar 3, 2016, 09:48 AM

In a GE, it would be a bloodbath. It could only help her there though...people tend to like honesty as a change of pace from pols, even when they're saying honestly terrible things. I can't say like Hillary Clinton, but I have to respect that she does actually understand something most Democrats seem to not understand: Politics is bloodsport. If she's not responding now, I have to assume she's saving her ammo until she can nail him at point-blank range in a head-to-head fight.

Let him attack her...then respond not to rebut his attacks but reveal his greater malign complicity in what he's accusing her of.

"Oh yes, everybody knows my husband is a incorrigible flirt, but those prostitutes Donald is always surrounding himself with are like leaving candy lying around for Bill."

Whatever he attacks with...rebut it with his complicity.

If he accuses her of being a crook, rebut he'd know since he tried to bribe her. Low energy? That's because she's not into cocaine like the Trumps. Frigid? A lesbian? (These are the kinds of bombastic inanities I can see him resorting to) Her sex-life is not a qualification of office, but she sees why a serial-philandering pervert like him would want to talk about it.

Break out the purse-mouthed impression she did of him on SNL on a debate stage and it's all over...she'd be mocking him to his face and he'd utterly lose it. $50 says he'd call her a c*nt on national TV from the debate stage.

It doesn't matter how much the moronic end of the GOP likes him...his candidacy won't survive that.

Welcome to 2016 politics where the conversation is all about how to one up your opponent rather than champion the causes that matter to the people like:

Peace - not war
saving the planet from man made climate change, fracking and other horrors, clean water and air
Single Payer Healthcare
$15 Minimum Wage
Making College affordable
ending the oligarchy
Expanding Social Security
Ending the for profit criminal justice system
you know, stuff like that. One issue stuff

But I know, bringing the campaign into the gutter makes great TV. More Bread! More Circuses.

Bernie, please save us.

He's a total blowhard, and he won't stop yelling long enough for a response. What happened in that room a while back was about as much like what Donald will throw at her as a pee-wee football match compared to the Superbowl. He will pound, and pound, he will make incredibly offensive sexist remarks and then will pretend he said nothing wrong, while she fumes.

She won't be able to brush him off. Worse yet, a lot of people who might have been undecided before any such "debate" will come away thinking the Donald was masterful and dominated the event. They won't be tuned into nuances, although with Trump there are no nuances, so that won't matter anyway.

He's a pig, and I despise him, but his brand of sexism and chauvinism all too often prevails. I know. I'm only a year or so younger than Hillary, and I've known plenty of men like him. As I often say, it's sometimes a wonder the murder rate isn't higher than it is.

He will say things that are so despicable, that those of us who understand him (more or less) will totally discount his bullshit, but many out there will not. They will take his statements as normal. Meanwhile, she'll be looking around for support. She'll have it from the Democratic loyaltists, but not from anyone else. So she'll be out there, floundering, while he keeps on punching, saying his crap over and over. That is NOT a winning strategy.

Oh, and the independents will listen to him, and too many of them will decide he makes sense.

You just don't get it.
