she should just smile and laugh a little, and then say; "Is that all you got? look, I had ignorant, angry old white men insulting me and yelling at me for 11 and a half hours and they left the room with their tails between their legs...you're nothing!"
and then just brush some lint off her shoulder.

(16,399 posts)Apparently you are greatly disturbed by Hillary's "arrogance" and potential arrogance towards asshole Republicans like Trey Gowdy, Marcia Roby and Rump. I guess you have issues to work out.
Have a nice evening.

(13,685 posts)The people like meanness. Trump will be hard to out-mean.
Shankapotomus
(4,840 posts)When Trump goes mean Hillary just needs to bring that up.
Instead of hitting directly back she could take that opportunity to remind everyone of all the people and groups Trump has insulted.

(4,840 posts)And when you're considering between which of two candidates will preside over a country made up of different groups where one has a long list of insulting most of them, you're not going to want to be the one who picked that guy.

(594 posts)very strong feelings about both Clinton and Drumpf. I imagine anyone not committed to either candidate would just stay home on election day rather than vote for one or the other.

(24,692 posts)That does not seem to be the case with Democrats, if the tenor of our primary is any indication.
If independents also value meanness above all else, I guess the US will get the president it deserves.

(26,060 posts)and they will continue to do so because they're imbeciles. Hillary or Bernie just need to reach the 10% of independents that actually decide elections. We all need to remember that while he's cleaning up in the gop nomination race, even there 60% of the base is voting against him.

(20,176 posts)from tearing ourselves in opposite directions as a party. (This may also be the GOP's problem but I'm going to focus on our problem...because it's not our problem either if the GOP can't fix theirs.)
There is a solid 20% of Democrats (not DINOs, Democrats that also IDed to pollsters as having voted in 2008 and 2012 for Obama or having a favorable opinion of the President) that have consistently told pollsters they will not vote for Hillary, regardless who she is running against, if she's the nominee. Based on my own anecdotal experience, I suspect that number is about the same for Sanders.
So, we have a problem. We have a decisive amount of active Democrats that won't vote for Hillary, either because they believe the scandals or because she refuses to embrace Sanders economics...and we probably have a similarly decisive amount that won't vote for Sanders because they're economic-moderates (mostly center/center-right) and social liberals, so if they can't get Hillary, the GOP is their next best choice as long as that GOP nominee is socially-moderate, as Trump is perceived to be on many issues.
We may not just need the 10% that decide elections...we need that 10% plus another 20% of independents or GOP defectors.

(26,060 posts)That poor whites who wouldn't vote for Pres Obama because he was black, they wont vote for this one or that one for whatever stupid reason they come up with. Such people should be ignored because all they're looking for is attention. I honestly don't know even one person who will vote for donald (but I'm from NY where we know him best) and that includes republicans.

(9,497 posts)who are not going to vote for h are dumb white voters. You seemed to be jumping in and agreeing. Just wanted to clear the air that not all are white and not all are going to not vote or vote Trump. There is another way for us to vote for a woman with principles.
She might not win, but we sure won't have to hold our noses.

Trump has a formidable talent for finding a person's chink and then smashing it.
HRC has significant baggage and Trump's been friends with the Clintons for years so he personally knows it. I fear him in a debate with her frankly. She gets defensive and prickly when attacked like that which looks terrible

(2,593 posts)He, on the other hand, will be at a loss for a response to any substantive policy question.
The other Republicans have let him get away with shit because they didn't want to offend his supporters. They wanted to inherit them when Trump left the race. This will not be a concern for Hillary.

(26,060 posts)There is mountains of dirt waiting to be unloaded. Hillary or Bernie will not be the sniveling cowards the other cons were. Neither of them has to worry about garnering the 40% of the gop base that supports donnie. Where on earth did people get the idea he's enormously popular? Even 60% of the gop continuously votes against him in the primaries.

(20,176 posts)In a GE, it would be a bloodbath. It could only help her there though...people tend to like honesty as a change of pace from pols, even when they're saying honestly terrible things. I can't say like Hillary Clinton, but I have to respect that she does actually understand something most Democrats seem to not understand: Politics is bloodsport. If she's not responding now, I have to assume she's saving her ammo until she can nail him at point-blank range in a head-to-head fight.
Let him attack her...then respond not to rebut his attacks but reveal his greater malign complicity in what he's accusing her of.
"Oh yes, everybody knows my husband is a incorrigible flirt, but those prostitutes Donald is always surrounding himself with are like leaving candy lying around for Bill."
Whatever he attacks with...rebut it with his complicity.
If he accuses her of being a crook, rebut he'd know since he tried to bribe her. Low energy? That's because she's not into cocaine like the Trumps. Frigid? A lesbian? (These are the kinds of bombastic inanities I can see him resorting to) Her sex-life is not a qualification of office, but she sees why a serial-philandering pervert like him would want to talk about it.
Break out the purse-mouthed impression she did of him on SNL on a debate stage and it's all over...she'd be mocking him to his face and he'd utterly lose it. $50 says he'd call her a c*nt on national TV from the debate stage.
It doesn't matter how much the moronic end of the GOP likes him...his candidacy won't survive that.

(1,252 posts)Welcome to 2016 politics where the conversation is all about how to one up your opponent rather than champion the causes that matter to the people like:
Peace - not war
saving the planet from man made climate change, fracking and other horrors, clean water and air
Single Payer Healthcare
$15 Minimum Wage
Making College affordable
ending the oligarchy
Expanding Social Security
Ending the for profit criminal justice system
you know, stuff like that. One issue stuff
But I know, bringing the campaign into the gutter makes great TV. More Bread! More Circuses.
Bernie, please save us.

(23,156 posts)He's a total blowhard, and he won't stop yelling long enough for a response. What happened in that room a while back was about as much like what Donald will throw at her as a pee-wee football match compared to the Superbowl. He will pound, and pound, he will make incredibly offensive sexist remarks and then will pretend he said nothing wrong, while she fumes.
She won't be able to brush him off. Worse yet, a lot of people who might have been undecided before any such "debate" will come away thinking the Donald was masterful and dominated the event. They won't be tuned into nuances, although with Trump there are no nuances, so that won't matter anyway.
He's a pig, and I despise him, but his brand of sexism and chauvinism all too often prevails. I know. I'm only a year or so younger than Hillary, and I've known plenty of men like him. As I often say, it's sometimes a wonder the murder rate isn't higher than it is.

(26,060 posts)While his BASE will eat it up, they don't decide elections - independents do. All his ranting will do is make the gender gap that much more glaring. Lazio tried to "bully" her - he started losing control right after that. She can't show any fear (and she wont) - she'll go toe to toe with him.
SheilaT
(23,156 posts)He will say things that are so despicable, that those of us who understand him (more or less) will totally discount his bullshit, but many out there will not. They will take his statements as normal. Meanwhile, she'll be looking around for support. She'll have it from the Democratic loyaltists, but not from anyone else. So she'll be out there, floundering, while he keeps on punching, saying his crap over and over. That is NOT a winning strategy.
Oh, and the independents will listen to him, and too many of them will decide he makes sense.
You just don't get it.

(26,060 posts)watching donnie for decades. If even one of those sniveling cowards on the right running against him had stood up to him early - instead of being so afraid of alienating his base - this would not be happening. Hillary will never let that happen. It's you that doesn't get there is MOUNTAIN of dirt on donnie that hasn't even begun being used (trump university is only the beginning). He's like all bullies - stand up to him, never back down and he'll go completely off the rails. He's been very successful with the GOP BASE - and even 60% of them are voting against him. Stop chowing down on the propaganda that he's enormously popular - he's not and never will be.
