25 Eye Catching Facts About The Eye And Its Incredible Complexity

Published on Mar 3, 2016
You probably never realized how complex your eyeball is. It's incredibly complex. It's almost like a little wonder of mechanical engineering. It seems so simple though, doesn't it? It's just a little ball. How complicated can it be? Well, think about it. The vast majority of information you process about the world is visual. And those two balls in your head are responsible for processing and transmitting that vast quantity of information to your brain. Everything you look at involves so much information exchange that it would make your head spin if you could actually wrap your brain around it. Which is why today, we're going to learn some quirky, fun facts about the eye.

For one thing, did you know that carrots don't actually improve your eyesight? At least not anymore than any other vegetable. The fact that carrots are good for your eyes was propagated by the British during World War II because they didn't want the Germans to find out that their pilots were using radar to shoot down their planes (radar was new back then). To hide their advantage they came up with a cover story - their pilots had really good eyesight because they ate lots of carrots. And since that day people have believed it. We're not even joking. These are 25 eye catching facts about the eye and its incredible complexity!
