Petition for a new DU Group - Primary Peace or Primary Calm, or some such

Last edited Thu Mar 3, 2016, 08:49 PM - Edit history (1)

That is just a working title. The idea is a group to counter the rancor and lack of civility in the cesspool known as GDP. A place where people (and I do believe there are MANY) who would be pleased to support either of our candidates, even as we might favor one over the other. This would be an opportunity to discuss debate moderation, attacks on the candidates by GOPers and the media, any topic that, because it mentions a candidate, cannot be posted in GD and, if posted in GDP would just get mixed into the sewage that flows through it.

The group would be "protected" for both Clinton and Sanders supporters, meaning (I think) that an attack from one group to the other would be an offense group hosts could enforce.

As I understand the rules, we need to start a petition to gauge support before we petition Skinner to create the group.

8. So would I. I have had posts locked for being Primary related . . . . .

. . . . when they were about the media. I asked in ATA, but have yet to get an answer. Since that question was over a month ago, I can assume I won't see an answer.

The fact remains, there are lots of people who are interested in actual discussion of actual issues and who do NOT wish to engage in the shitstorm that is GDP.

12. That may be effectively so, but the site rules still say no Primary discussion in GD

And it is unlikely Bernie is going to drop out, so we probably have a long way to go with the restriction, still.

4. I would LOVE a group that could actually discuss candidates and issues

.... without demonizing and distorting the candidates.

For the record Bernie Sanders experience is not the equivalent of "flipping burgers" (mayor, congress person, senator) and Hillary is not even close to being a republican (11th most liberal member of the senate during her term).

It would be nice to have discussions with people without over the top emotion involved

13. Hopefully that kind of discussion is also possible, but the idea I had in mind . . . .

. . . . was being able to discuss the treatment of our candidates by the media, the GOP, even the party chairwoman. A place to discuss the stupidity of the schedule for our debates, smart campaign advertising, the way with Trump, that sort of thing.

The tightrope walk will be balancing the sorts of discussions you envision (which are good) with the over the top crap that gets vomited in GDP.

Hopefully by creating a tight set of rules, and designating the group as a safe place, the rules can be enforced.

15. It turns out this may not be such a good idea

The rabid supporters of various candidates are so over the top there seems to be no hope of rancor free conversation.

Dear rabid supporters: You are changing no one's minds.

who are more about supporting a certain candidate rather than supporting the Democratic Party Nominee. Though the vast majority of those will end up supporting the eventual nominee, it makes it difficult that they become unreasonable during the primaries. It was nice having a break from this nonsense in 2012, but it always gets nutty during the primaries.
