(4,019 posts)Unfortunately my donations are small, wish I could do more. This is from the IRS website.
You may deduct charitable contributions of money or property made to qualified organizations if you itemize your deductions. Generally, you may deduct up to 50 percent of your adjusted gross income, but 20 percent and 30 percent limitations apply in some cases.

(58,785 posts)There is much evidence that Mitt is an ardent fundamentalist believer whose life is devoted to serving his God. At least he truly believes so, and I'm sure he's sincere as far as it goes.
With that in mind, what could he be making of all of this chaos on the right but that it is proof of God and Satan squaring off in the final days? The Mormons have already finished their work of preparing the world for God's kingdom that God created their church for. God apparently didn't want him to be president last time, and there must have been a reason he had Mitt's past donors refuse to support him this time -- only to bring him in now....
It's time. Even a heathen like me can see that. The Mormons have a site all ready in Missouri for the capital of God's kingdom here on earth. Obviously, though, Armageddon means God will need to have His man in charge of the world's greatest military might before unleashing hell on earth.
In other words, another right-wing extremist appears to be entering the field. God!!!

Trump will come back with a stupid response, his fans will cheer and nothing will change...but certainly interesting to watch them eat their own and further destroy their party.

Romney should have stood up and said "Trump is a crook!" and left it at that.

(18,115 posts)Trump thrives off shit slinging.
There has to be a call to direct action. A new nominee, a forceful endorsement, a vow to fight at the convention, a plan that will prevent Trump from gaining enough delegates to win the first ballot, etc. That was simply not enough today.
Johonny
(20,829 posts)he has no path to the nomination without them.

(7,627 posts)Now, of course I did not vote Romney and never would have but at least he is trying to do something about Trump. Unfortunately, I do not think it will work. It is a day late and a dollar short. Not to mention, Mitt does not have such a big influence on the party itself and certainly almost zero on the electorate. He might with the donor class but Trump is mainly self funded.

(21,088 posts)I think there has been a sea change in the electorate:
What's made Trump's rise even more puzzling is that his support seems to cross demographic lines education, income, age, even religiosity that usually demarcate candidates. And whereas most Republican candidates might draw strong support from just one segment of the party base, such as Southern evangelicals or coastal moderates, Trump currently does surprisingly well from the Gulf Coast of Florida to the towns of upstate New York, and he won a resounding victory in the Nevada caucuses.
Perhaps strangest of all, it wasn't just Trump but his supporters who seemed to have come out of nowhere, suddenly expressing, in large numbers, ideas far more extreme than anything that has risen to such popularity in recent memory. In South Carolina, a CBS News exit poll found that 75 percent of Republican voters supported banning Muslims from the United States. A PPP poll found that a third of Trump voters support banning gays and lesbians from the country. Twenty percent said Lincoln shouldn't have freed the slaves.
Authoritarians are a real constituency that exists independently of Trump and will persist as a force in American politics. Authoritarians prioritize social order and hierarchies, which bring a sense of control to a chaotic world. Challenges to that order diversity, influx of outsiders, breakdown of the old order are experienced as personally threatening because they risk upending the status quo order they equate with basic security.
This is, after all, a time of social change in America. The country is becoming more diverse, which means that many white Americans are confronting race in a way they have never had to before. Those changes have been happening for a long time, but in recent years they have become more visible and harder to ignore. And they are coinciding with economic trends that have squeezed working-class white people.
This is an utterly terrifying election. It's not about policies, it's about psychology - specifically about the Shadow in the electoral unconscious.
Cthulhu has awakened in the soul of America.
