Death claims 97-year-old Burlingame woman fighting eviction

http://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/Death-claims-97-year-old-Burlingame-woman-6869612.php

Marie Hatch, the 97-year-old Burlingame woman whose fight against being evicted from her home of 66 years drew international attention, died Thursday evening.

Ms. Hatch apparently died of natural causes after suffering from a severe cold for more than a week, family friends said. She had been hospitalized and Thursday evening returned home, where she succumbed....

Joe Cotchett, the powerhouse lawyer who — after The Chronicle broke the story last month — took up Ms. Hatch’s fight with a lawsuit, said her case was “the tip of the iceberg as to how senior citizens are being treated in the Bay Area in terms of being put out on the sidewalk.”

His law partner, Nancy Nishimura, was at the Hatch home comforting her relatives and her longtime roommate, 85-year-old Georgia Rothrock. “There is no doubt that her being served with a notice that she had to be out on the sidewalk brought about her death,” she said.

At that age anything can happen, but probably the stress and uncertainty played a factor...probably a long one. I hope she's at peace.

how much of an ass that guy is. The woman was 97 and fighting cancer. He chose to evict her. He could have done the right thing and waited, instead he made her last days on this Earth a nightmare. He chose to do that. I hope he is cognant enough to remember this when his children treat him the same way. Trust me they will, they learned from him.

With his luck, it would have been until right after the real estate bubble burst.

He could have even sold it with her living there until death stipulation. From what I hear, property is hard to come by in the area. Something like that would have affected the value. He chose to be vindictive. His kids have learned from the best and will do the same to him, given 1/2 a chance.

What I don't understand is a woman compassionate enough to honor the agreement her mother made, married to this guy.

I'd like to be around when the landlord's time comes. Not saying
I'd enjoy it, just saying I would like to see justice served.

Her GoFundMe is {Click} a little over $47K right now. Her partner
and her family could probably still use the help.
