A woman in New York City claims she was the victim of a bold lie by an Uber driver, saying he used fake vomit to charge her $200 in cleaning fees.

Similar incidents have been reported in other cities, including Los Angeles and Tampa.

Art director Meredith Mandel, who frequently uses Uber, says she used the service early in the morning of Feb. 21 from Fort Greene to Williamsburg.

Mandel told Gothamist that she, her boyfriend, and a friend were in the vehicle, and there were no problems. But when she woke up later that morning, she saw a $200 cleaning charge tacked onto the $19 fare, with no explanation.

It is a minority of people, but they are widely distributed and reflect poorly on the entire field - limo, cab, rideshare.

Presumably, market forces would lead to customer service improvements. But Uber screwed the pooch on what could have been amazing for them AND the drivers. They kept lowering the price to the point where it is difficult, if not impossible to make a worthwhile profit after car expenses. They discouraged tipping the driver, and they never added a favorite driver feature.

Many drivers who are able to do so have either drastically cut their hours or quit driving completely. Which, from news reports and anecdotal evidence, is leaving Uber stuck with a lower quality of driver.
