Ad for virgin daughter strikes sour note at Christian magazine

Not. The. Onion.

http://www.sfgate.com/news/houston-texas/article/Son-in-law-ad-strikes-sour-note-at-Christian-6875302.php

Christianity Today's chief editor Mark Galli has issued embarrassed apologies for a classified ad appearing in his publication's March edition that was placed by a parent soliciting a son-in-law for a "godly, gorgeous, athletic, educated, careered, humorous, traveled, bilingual" virgin daughter.

Ostensibly, the winning candidate, "unworthy but becoming less so daily," would fill an elder position at a Chicago-area church....

Oversights understandably occur, and inappropriate items can slip past the keenest-eyed editor, but at least some readers of Religion News Service's account of the episode were not mollified.

"What is more genuinely orthodox and biblical than treating your daughter like chattel property to be sold off to a suitor?" wrote one. "This is simply a matter of saying out loud behavior and ideas where are generally accepted in the group, but are not said explicitly."

Well, chalk up another vote for Cruz.

New word on me.

One thing does puzzle me, however. The prospective bride's qualifications would seem to indicate that she would not be satisfied as a chattel trophy wife. Wouldn't that disqualify her?

. . . you get a grown adult who thinks of women as property and believes in an imaginary friend who will smite his enemies and makes life better for him simultaneously as your Father in Law.

Get the bats out to beat that line of suitors off!!!
