What do these nations know that the USA does not know? Nothing special. They have dealt with the facts, and taken action to support the human beings who are the citizens of their nation -- rather than falling to bended knee before the Multinational Corporate Ag Borg.
The picture painted by the Biotech industry and the U.S. government - and so often shamelessly touted on the Internet - that GM crops have been accepted by the majority of countries worldwide is therefore false.

(755 posts)Over 80% of GMO crops use the toxic herbicide glyphosate, often peddled under the trade name Roundup. But now that the toxic goo is turning up everywhere -- from Fruit Loops, to beer and tampons, Europe is actually considering the health of the human beings who live there, and is applying the brakes.

(49,929 posts)We have estimated that on average Americans ingest roughly 5,000 to 10,000 different natural pesticides and their breakdown products. Americans eat about 1,500 mg of natural pesticides per person per day, which is about 10,000 times more than the 0.09 mg they consume of synthetic pesticide residues.

All we needed to do was check with progressoid and our fears magically disappeared!

Regarding the WHO's warning,
Two of the pesticides tetrachlorvinphos and parathion were rated as possibly carcinogenic to humans, or category 2B. Three malathion, diazinon and glyphosate were rated as probably carcinogenic to humans, labelled category 2A.

The IARC review notes that there is limited evidence for a link to cancer in humans

Other 'carcinogens'-Toast: contains acrylamide, a genotoxic carcinogen produced as a result of cooking starch-rich food at high temperatures.
-Coffee: a byproduct of roasting coffee beans is acrylamide. There have been attempts to force coffee companies in California to add a label warning of cancer.
-PVC plastic: emits a carcinogenic gas called vinyl chloride, better known as that not so lovely new-car smell.
-Broccoli, onions and strawberries: natural foods containing acetaldehyde, a carcinogen.
So for breakfast don't eat toast with strawberry jam and coffee made with water that came through a PVC pipe.

(755 posts)I respect your right to chug-a-lug. But do remember that there are many who would prefer their beer sans toxic herbicides.
We also have a right: to not be ingesting toxic herbicides that we do not want. Will you respect our rights? Or are your rights -- and the corporate "right to profit" - the only ones that count in your reckoning?

(14,255 posts)The idea is to not really have "sovereign nations". The corporations and banks will actually be in charge.

(4,667 posts)T T Eye Peee Is the one that is about harmonizing corporate-disliked laws related to food, energy, toxic chemicals and making the states, mini-cipalities and other countries all be the same corporate convergence, especially getting rid of the precautionary principle.
Its not the one about jobs nor is it the one about drugs and equal back doors.
Its the one for agri-energy-GMOS and EDC freedom.
2-4,5 T, that's the mutagen for me!
We'd be overgrown with weeds if it weren't for 2-4,5T.
If people are worried about chemicals in grown foods, just eat meat! raw meat.
That's the most American food.

(755 posts)"Even as the United States government continues to push for the use of more chemically-intensive and corporate-dominated farming methods such as GMOs and monoculture-based crops, the United Nations is once against sounding the alarm about the urgent need to return to (and develop) a more sustainable, natural and organic system.
"That was the key point of a new publication from the UN Commission on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) titledTrade and Environment Review 2013: Wake Up Before Its Too Late, which included contributions from more than 60 experts around the world..."

(7,897 posts)People attempt to educate you on the fact that GMO does not mean glyphosate, you continue to spew the same nonsense.
You really ought to apologize to this community.
