NO one "deserves respect". We all do, however, deserve to be treated respectfully.

NO one "deserves respect". We all do, however, deserve to be treated respectfully.

Nancy Reagan's funeral led me to this post, but it applies universally in real life and internet land and politics as well as about funerals.

There is a huge difference between the 2 concepts.

or Hitler

or Kim Jong-Il

or Saddam Hussein

or Pol Pot

or Mao Zedong

Must we only point out the good aspects of these people out of respect for the dead?

Respecting someone depends on the other person's actions.
Treating them respectfully is dependent on me, my actions.

So yes. I'd be respectful if on a jury sentencing him to prison for life with the seizure of all his assets.

I have no desire to piss on the Reagans' graves, but neither do I desire to wax nostalgically on how great they were as human beings because they just weren't.

Everyone dies. Simply dying does not absolve anyone of their actions while alive.

However, I just don't believe respect means when someone dies you can only bring up the good stuff about them. I don't think your posts imply that it does, but others seem to believe that.

Dead people don't care about respect because they are dead. There should be some level of respect for those who remain, but I don't think this includes painting a picture of the deceased that just isn't accurate.

I guess you can feel that way about Hitler and Genghis Khan as well, but I don't share that opinion. Nancy was a POS like her husband and I will never give them another thought until someone brings up the name. They can rot in Hell if there is one along with Scalia.

Those who exhibit monstrous behavior cause me to question that stance.
