I am not sure if the media is exposing Trump's hate speech as unacceptable, or if they are

exploiting it to increase their ratings.

While there is no doubt that most of the blame goes to the republican party who has been promoting Trump's racist, misogynistic, anti-Muslim, and anti-minority views, for decades, the media were also involved in this promotion, by mostly giving the republican party a free pass at the racism and sexism that is now an inherent part of the republican party.

Just look at the coverage the media spends on Trump verses the other candidate's view points.

There were more than a few times when a Democratic candidate was being covered at an event, when that coverage was preempted to cover a Trump event, and it wasn't just fox news that did that. Both MSNBC and CNN did it also.

One of the big concerns and fears I have is that this over coverage of Trump, directly or indirectly encourages his ideology as "mainstream".

When the media made a conscious decision to bombard us with the one-sided swift-boating of John Kerry, even to the degree that they were playing the swift boat commercials as part of their "news reporting", the whole media paradigm shifted. Instead of pointing out false hoods, lies, and misrepresentation, the media disavowed that as part of their function. This became all too clear with the birther movement, where unequal air time was given to that point of view then the actual facts.

Actually Chuck Todd said articulated it the best when he said "it's Not Media's Job To Correct GOP's Obamacare Falsehoods".

It is because of that mindset why falsehoods get represented as facts
