I have no doubt that Trump got exactly what he wanted last night. He planned a rally on a Friday night, after dark, at an ethnically diverse university campus, where lots of angry white folks with racists leanings would be mixed with progressive leaning students who do not support Trump. As the old saw goes, what could possibly go wrong?

He set it up, and it played out just the way he hoped it would.

He wanted the usual scene of white mobs beating up isolated black and brown protesters. He didn't want his event shut down and his white racist fanboys slapped in public when they tried to experience white supremacy.

Rachel Maddow made an interesting case that he was using an old strongman tactic of creating a chaotic situation that he could come in and solve with a repressive response. She said he did it right from the start of his campaign with the comments about Mexicans which he knew would provoke protests.

The media were falling all over themselves talking about what a huge crowd was gathering. My thought was that in a college town everyone would go no matter what their political leanings were.

Turns out it was true. Hell! If I were in college and Trump came to town I'd definitely go to his rally.
