SJW seems to be a term used to dismiss legitimate concerns.

As with everything there are people who take things to extremes or inanity.
So sure there are instances where people go overboard in declaring something sexist or racist.
Getting inflamed by Halloween costumes might be an example.
But these occurrences are in the minority and don't represent the overwhelming majority of complaints.
So those who do not wish to face the reality of bigotry just call anyone bringing up the subject a Social Justice Warrior, and can therefore dismiss their grievance.
