I mean, he's a blowhard moron, yes, but I didn't take him seriously and sure as hell didn't take his chances of WINNING seriously. That aside, what moved me into the "fear" category today was seeing all of that violence from his rallies. Holy crap, y'all. This man is like a crazed emperor at the gladiator fights. The man smells blood and LIKES IT. That is a frightening kind of person.
My husband says he's glad people are getting so "fired up" over politics this cycle because it means they're finally paying attention. I dunno. This is scary.

(14,177 posts)If I had grown up in the urban area I live in now, I wouldn't be nearly as willing to be confrontational as I am.

(1,014 posts)Me even posting this thread is nothing short of a miracle. Haha. I am thankful for those like you who can fight the good fight, though. I am scared for you, though. Really and truly. I have seen it said in several other threads that this violence is starting to remind people of the 60's, and from what I have seen of that era, I have to agree. I cannot even imagine things getting to that level again.

(1,014 posts)I wonder if the people who are acting like hateful rabid animals at his rallies are even ashamed when they see the footage and pictures of themselves later??!! Probably not. They should be, though.

This is the reason I always disagreed with Obama about his "One America" thing. These people are not like us. Hopefully? I may be wrong and I'm surrounded by a bunch of monsters on all sides too. But these people are not interested in getting along, in fair treatment for everyone or even in a stable society.
Now they have the figurehead focus they've always wanted. Great, isn't? I'm also going to keep pointing out that Big Dog encouraged him to get into the race, probably as a political calculation. This can't be entirely not what the establishment wants- they invited him to do it.

(14,459 posts)And it's simple- Hannah Arendt, the Stanford experiment, the Milgram experiment and a host of other research was not wrong. The people the Nazis depended on to rise were already here in the US as a significant part of our population. People who would follow orders, even when they knew it was wrong. People who supported authoritarians. People who wanted to be a part of that kind of racism and brutality.
"It can't happen here!" is just a reflection of the lie of "American Exceptionalism." The plague is spreading, again.

(13,685 posts)What concerns me even more is that we have one candidate that supports wars. Wars even Trump has claimed were mistakes and founded on lies.
Going forward, Trump will be somewhat castrated and much less bombastic, thanks to the Bernie people standing up to him.
