Personally, I like a double Big Mac (two patties in each section for a total of 4). I do skip the fries and the soft drinks - unsweetened iced tea for the win.

(36,227 posts)Plus, probably a little of the Leidenfrost Effect.
Notice that the lettuce (which is mostly water) did just fine. A wet rag would have survived about as well.

Which yes, in my neck of the woods tea that is not swimming in sugar is like running into the Sasquatch with your car.

Well, shit, I said Waffle House so we know how this is going to go.

(62,444 posts)The same thing happens when you pour liquid nitrogen on your skin, or pour water onto the surface of an iron.
The patty is moist. The instant vaporization of that moisture creates pressure sufficient to levitate the liquid copper so it runs off the side like an air hockey puck.
I can't believe anyone finds it "horrifying", unless they are technically illiterate. Which, at this point in this country, seems to be everyone with an internet connection.

What is going on here is rather straight forward. What allows you to dip your water covered hand into molten metal is called the Leidenfrost Effect. When a liquid comes into contact with a surface or medium that is much hotter than the boiling temperature of that liquid, the surface of the liquid quickly comes to a boil and creates a thin layer of steam (if the liquid is water) that acts as a barrier between the liquid and the surface or medium.

(39,961 posts)I object in any way advocating people pour liquid nitrogen on any part of their body, because that is just fucking dangerous.
I know you meant it as a joke, but damn, you never know who is reading this forum and might take it seriously.

(62,444 posts)Done it a zillion times. No joke.
If you pour it over the back of your hand, it just rolls off, like the copper on the handburger.
If you pour it onto the palm of your hand, especially with your fingers closed, you can get some stinging in the lines of your palm and between your fingers, since it doesn't run off, but pools in those crevices.
Also good for sweeping the dust off the lab floor. Fill up a dewar flask, dump it out in a preferred direction, and it scoots across the floor and sweeps the dust. Also, it does a number on the adhesive holding the tiles down after a while (as we learned).
I'm going to guess you haven't played around with it a whole lot.
Aside from which, I don't recall 'advocating' it. I described what happens when you do it.
But you're okay with a pic of someone sticking their fingers into molten lead? Lol. I wouldn't attempt that one for a number of reasons - one of which is having an open pot of molten lead in the first place.
