Over a quarter of Malaysia’s super rich want to move abroad, says study

DESPITE having amassed the huge amounts of wealth, over a quarter of Malaysia’s super-rich intend to migrate to other places within the next decade.

This was the finding of a study by independent global property consultancy, Knight Frank, which found that 26 percent of the current ultra-high-net-worth-individuals (UHNWIs) considered moving out of the country. The regional average, however, was at 16 percent.

“This is particularly interesting given that we do a study of the region, and Malaysia’s UHNWIs shows the highest propensity to find other domiciles,” the consultancy’s Asia Pacific head of research, Nicholas Holt told The New Straits Times yesterday.

Knight Frank Malaysia managing director, Sarkunan Subramaniam played down the seemingly large figure, adding that there were numerous factors which had led to this.
