If the Democratic convention is deadlocked or if Hillary is forced to withdraw her name from consideration due to legal/personal issues.
And if most Democratic Party leaders who are super delegates refuse to vote for Bernie Sanders as the Democratic nominee if he's just short of getting a majority of delegates on the first ballot.
In that scenario delegates could decide to nominate a compromise Warren/Sanders ticket.

(24,411 posts)I hadn't though of that, but I tell you--I am wondering if something off-the-charts isn't going to happen?
I know that sounds strange. And I concede that this might be my own emotion (and possibly denial) getting in the way.
But something feels...off. I sense that there are fireworks a coming. Again...no proof. No empirical data. No nothing.
I've heard others throw out scenarios such as yours. Maybe we're all picking up on something--that things are not as they seem.

Hubert Humphrey was Lyndon Johnson's VP and never campaigned in a primary yet the Debbie Wasserman Schultzes of the time chose Humphrey behind closed doors and the Party splintered. Humphrey lost to Richard Nixon (but we had our Alabama Governor, George Wallace (think Trump-squared) who got over 10% and that didn't help either. Dog forbid they try to pull the same stunt it because will likely end up badly for everyone and I doubt Senator Warren would have any part of it. BAD IDEA.
