What brilliant twisting - get this - Liberal news is now being criticized by conservatives BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T CRITICIZE TRUMP ENOUGH - In other words, the liberal news is responsible for Trump's ascendancy.
"... Following a Republican debate, the conservative NewsBusters pointed out that the media wasn't paying sufficient attention to a news story that reflected poorly on the front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination.
And with that, we're officially through the looking glass, to the point where conservative critiques of the campaign press now read like Media Matters essays: Journalists are too soft on Trump, rewarding him with too much airtime and allowing him to dictate access ground rules. "

(3,457 posts)Look at how MSNBC has been hanging on every word Trump farts out. No Trump rally or news conference can be ignored.

(3,457 posts)Trump has dominated the news cycle for months. A Media Matters report found that Fox News alone has given Trump nearly $30 million in free airtime since the launch of his presidential bid. Broadcast news outlets have received criticism for allowing Trump "unprecedented" access via phone interviews.
Now, according to Blaine, "Staffers at the five major television networks are grappling with what role their organizations may have played in amplifying Donald Trump's successful campaign of insults, generalizations about minority groups, and at times flat lies.
"Conversations with more than a dozen reporters, producers, and executives across the major networks reveal internal tensions about the wall-to-wall coverage Trump has received and the degree to which the Republican frontrunner has -- or hasn't -- been challenged on their air."

(5,433 posts)The responsibility for Herr Pustule Drumpf's success, whatever its limits turn out to be, will have to be hung completely around the necks of CNN and MSNBC for broadcasting his every fart. Imagine the outcome if Bernie's message had been broadcast to the same degree.

(30,613 posts)Really? Can you please point me to the liberal media? I can't find them - unless DU counts as media.

(3,457 posts)There is no liberal media when it comes to broadcast. We sort of had it for a while on MSNBC but they are now the Trump Network.
Not much in the way of print either.
That pretty much leaves DU.

(13,841 posts)Ratings? Nah-the media is good at string the pot to get their ratings no matter who runs. Why Trump though?
LiberalLovinLug
(14,164 posts)and the money that flows from that of course. They COULD stir the pot in other ways, but playing the Trump card is the easiest and most effective at the moment. And more importantly, the other channel is using it, so why would they not? It is even built into the law to protect private shareholders that a corporation MUST always strive to make the most profit. Its what they do. The same reason they fall over themselves to cover a story about a kid trapped in a well, or a white blond teen murdered or kidnapped.
If one is flipping around the news channels, and one stumbles on footage of Trump spewing out yet another new abomination, along with footage of cheering crowds, chances are you will pause to look, either in awe or disgust. Sponsors of those networks make money when people slow down to look at the accident.
Now another whole topic is How do we change this? Other than demanding all networks use a non-profit business model, financed by the public, which would never fly, what is to be done?

(48,957 posts)The media have been irresponsible and cravenly sold out. Access is over-rated. For example, HuffPo does great reporting on Trump without "access".

(284 posts)And since they have excluded candidates their corporate leaders oppose, the FEC should rule that this excessive amount of coverage both to Clinton and Trump constitute illegal campaign contributions.
