Everyone got to record some sound bytes for campaign ads and frank mail, but will any of them actually do anything? Any bills proposed? Any action being taken? Oh, wait, it's a GOP Congress, so in order to help the people of Flint, we'll have to take the money out of food stamps, Medicare and Social Security.
Nothing will get done, but it was a fun hearing to watch.

(23,338 posts)The main lines were replaced a few years ago, and they are plastic, so that's probably what would be used. I'd get a plumber who knows the local codes, and go with their recommendation.

(1,508 posts)My neighbor converted to PCV recently. I have my water tested periodically. I would suggest you have your water tested before going to the expense of removing or replacing that much plumbing. If you have a problem, at least you will know what type of pipe would be best for that problem. I get mine tested here: http://www.paracellabs.com/homeowners/water-quality You might want to give them a try.

(1,033 posts)poisoning our citizens is meaningless when we have cows grazing on federal land, right?
Maybe the citizens of Flint need to start posting nude selfies. That seems to get attention.

As Flint, Michigan, deals with the effects of utter government failure, Sen. Mike Lee is secretly preventing them from receiving assistance from the federal governmentall on a technicality.

The Daily Beast, March 2, 2016
The intellectual leader of the tea party movement in the Senate is secretly holding up a bill to help the residents of Flint, Michigan, who have been poisoned by their own water supply.
As Republican presidential hopefuls gather in Detroit for a critical post-Super Tuesday debate, Sen. Mike Lee is stalling plans to alleviate the nearby towns drinking water crisisa disaster that has a disproportionate and devastating impact on the poor and the young.
Lee is using a Senate tactic used to gum up the works known as a hold, which is generally kept secret so the lawmaker can remain anonymous. But two senior Senate sources confirmed to The Daily Beast that Lee is behind the maneuver to stall an utterly uncontroversial provision.
Privately the Utah Republican has relied on three reasons to justify his opposition to the legislation, all of which are procedural or philosophical.
Lee doesnt like that the proposal is not being put through the ordinary and time-consuming gantlet of Senate procedures known as regular order; has objections on how money from the stimulus is being repurposed for water infrastructure; and is concerned about the federal government getting involved in what he views as a local issue.
