(41,831 posts)favorite coffee. Speaking of which....
I was at the the hospital yesterday, meeting up with my newly assigned doctor. In the lobby there use to be a "Mom and Pop stye" coffee cart.. that not only made coffee but sold things like pastries, sandwiches, cookies, and had fruit. It was run by this lovely Chinese guy and his wife, and a few people he hired.
They are gone now. His cart was removed by the hospital and replaced with a STARBUCKS venue. The Coffee that was sold for 1.50 has doubled or tripled in price. I guess the Corporation must have given the Hospital an incentive to replace his freshly made coffee with a STARBUCKS that sells few items besides its highly priced coffees.

(11,945 posts)We need to get rid of monopolies and make the business environment favor small local businesses.
If you wanted to, you could tell the hospital that the other coffee cart was better. Of course, to make a difference, they'd have to hear from many people.

(11,945 posts)It almost makes me feel hopeless to think how little say the people have in anything anymore.
Right now, Bernie looks like our only hope.

(32,723 posts)Every year they put out some kind of seasonal blend. This is usually the way they dump all of the beans they burned over the past year.

(11,945 posts)which keeps it simple and reliable.
My coffee history is a bit more complicated. I've gone from this:
to this:
to this (now out in the garage):
to this:
which required this:
which made the best coffee in the world, but my doctor ordered me to lower my cholesterol (unfiltered french press coffee has oils) so I went to this:
which required great strength to use (I'm not a very big person and had to lean on it with my entire body to press through the stream) and then I got hit with double whammy that left my arms and hands weak and painful, so now I'm back to this:
but am thinking of getting the espresso maker out of the garage.
I love coffee.

(11,945 posts)Often go in for plain ol' French or Italian roast when aficionado friends suggest subtler varieties. Or I'll get two pounds of this from Costco because it's good and not too expensive bought that way:
But of course it's better to go to local roasters and buy a pound as soon after roasting as possible, if one can afford it.
