(5,191 posts)It's horrors like this that make me happy not to be a practicing anything, rather, simply a human being who cares about others. Organized religion has many problems.

(7,886 posts)This is the kind of response they enable with every nasty remark thrown to the ravening hordes of believers. They may not intend bloodshed as such but they certainly engineer and tune the hatred that drives it.

(7,886 posts)laying the groundwork for here. It is terrible that an ordinary guy could be murdered for saying something so innocuous to his neighbors and customers. The apparent reason for the murder was EXACTLY the kind of intolerance that is being generated by Trump and the others with every hateful word to enable the anger and give it a target.
You do not have to stick a knife into someone to damage their lives. Passing legislation can accomplish the same and worse, as it just did in my state by making LGBT people legally sanctioned targets for hatred and abuse.
We have had Muslims attacked here in America for simply being in the wrong place and breathing, or running a neighborhood convenience store. Which is not to mention Sikhs and others who simply looked "wrong" to their racist attackers. Which is not to mention what happened to a few Asian store owners in certain neighborhoods not so long ago.
I overheard some sickening remarks the other day while at lunch in a local restaurant. It was not the first time I heard such here, nor did the people who made them seem to think they were not common belief. I can imagine just what it will sound like to eat there in a few months with the hate turned up to full boil to win the election.
This attack was not about Muslim, it was about purist hatred of the other. In Glasgow the knife was apparently wielded by another Muslim who saw it as his duty to enforce his version of the true faith. In America we are heading towards a confrontation of those who think they carry the true "American" faith and whose fear of the other is being used to enforce that vision on the rest of us, and just possibly the rest of the world.

(1,683 posts)is a very common occurrence here in the US. I highly doubt that the perps are Trump supporters, Christian fundamentalists, or Mormon polygamists.

(5,591 posts)I've learned more about you since your murder. You were a man of honor, who always had patience and never had a terse word to say.
May your memory be a blessing to all who knew and loved you.
