I couldn't believe that Trump didn't blow up but couldn't handle Tweety's great questions on abortion rights--and Tweety didn't budge an inch, in pointing out Trump's inconsistencies and not letting him off the hook.
Occasionally Tweety puts his ability to spar to great use.
This was on MSNBC - I think it was the town hall.

(570 posts)Yes, Trump couldn't handle the question, but then he turned it on Tweety by pointing out Tweety's own religious hypocrisy was no different than Trump's own. Tweety couldn't handle it, turned red, and quoted back scripture and went to break.
Tweety wasn't demonstrating journalism, he just got testy because someone attacked him personally. It's the only time we see the media press back.
It's ridiculous. They both look like fools.

(41,959 posts)I'm no fan by any means but Trump is very masterful at pushing people around and he knew he'd found a weak spot with Matthews' religious beliefs. Matthews absolutely stuck to the idea that moral law as dictated by a religion and the law of the land are two different things and should be. He quoted scripture in perfect context, "Render unto Caesar...".
In fact I've enjoyed this whole insane interview. I'm sorry how much slid but there was only an hour and Trump can tap-dance like nobody else.

(34,429 posts)beliefs are totally irrelevant. His audience did not come there (or turn on the TV) to hear Tweety pontificate or debate on his personal life. Most importantly, he also is not running for President, where he has the opportunity to sign executive orders and passed legislation that affects the lives and rights of millions of people. So even if he were willing to discuss his religion, and he did a good job of trying to be conversational with Trump (and I think making it harder for Trump to think quickly) but finally had to cut it short to re-focus back on the candidate, it is completely none of my concern what a talking head does in his/er personal life or whether there are any inconsistencies in his/her views. And since he did not take much time to discuss his views, how could anyone say he has no appropriate resolution of what might be inconsistencies? I don't see how one could assess that in a few minutes.
If a non-politician starts bringing up his/her OWN religious views on TV and I don't like what s/he has to say, I will change the channel. You can't change the channel on whoever is elected President, and s/he could make your life very difficult (or easier).

(10,132 posts)by letting Trump turn the discussion around to Matthew's beliefs: he should have just said, the question is what YOU think, not what I think.
Otherwise, better than expected.

(417 posts)This is the worst example of a "town hall" I've seen so far. Who is interviewing whom? Trump grilled Mathews about HIS abortion stance. WTH? It is time for Mathews to retire. What an embarrassing example of ass kissing. Obviously Trump is dazzling Mathews to the point of incoherence... Big Fail, MSNBC.

(34,429 posts)few minutes drew the line and shifted the focus right back onto Trump's poorly thought out views on what criminal penalties he would impose on women who get abortions.
Sorry you felt the need to ask "are you serious" rather than just indicating the evidence to support your perception of the event.

(417 posts)After watching those two blowhards screech over each other for 60 minutes, I was taken aback by the thought anyone could consider it a serious interview... didn't mean to offend, sorry.

Tweety looked a little pissed.

(9,463 posts)Trump argued against abortion and said the woman should be punished. Then he was asked about gay marriage and his response was that "the courts have already ruled and I will follow the court's ruling".
Excuse me, haven't the courts already ruled on abortion, also?

(1,307 posts)Held Trump to the fire for about 5 minutes. Trump kept trying to make the abortion topic Chris's problem by pushing it back on him - "You're a Catholice, aren't you? What does your religion say? You accept the Church's teachings, but you think a woman should choose?" For once Trump didn't want to talk about himself!
And two or three times, Trump did say he thinks women should be punished. It's on video, dude.
