As we former loyal viewers bemoan the "All Trump All The Time" deterioration of our previously go-to cable resource, the reality is they have actally improved their ratings.
MSNBC had a big quarter in prime time as well, averaging 1.1 million total viewers. That figure represents a +73 percent year-over-year improvement (628,000 in Q1 2015). The network averaged 268,000 adults 25-54 in the quarter, which is a +111 percent year-over-year improvement (127,000 in Q1 2015).
The networks top prime time program, The Rachel Maddow Show, was up +92 percent in adults 25-54 and up +48% in total viewers from Q1 of 2015. All in with Chris Hayes was up +78 percent from Q1 2015 in adults 25-54 and up +49 percent in average total viewers.
March 2016 has been MSNBCs highest-rated month in total viewers and the news demo since January 2013 (dayside daypart). It has experienced 10 consecutive months of growth in the adults 25-54 demographic.

(417 posts)And being retired, I used to have it on most of the time in the background at least, if not actively watching. Now it is just irritating, not informative.

(130,728 posts)but I only watched/listened for hayes/rachel/O'donnell. Now, pretty much, nada. I'm retired too, but this is my 18/7: http://www.weta.org/listen-live Dvorak now.
Nothing good music can't improve, elleng! And much better for the blood pressure

(9,463 posts)...was quite a bit of watching.
Now, I'm tuning to TVLand, AntennaTV, Cozi, and the like. I now only tune in to MSNBC when I see something breaking on DU.

(580 posts)how to give up Comcast. I'm a news junkie and as bad as they are I'm afraid to go without. Any advice is GREATLY appreciated!!!
Little_Wing
(417 posts)They have Thom Hartmann and Democracy Now with Amy Goodman... that evening news fix is harder to satisfy, I must admit. Lucky we have DU to clue us in to breaking news. I've been finding the Warriors games a nice diversion too, but I'm in the SF Bay area

(856 posts)MSNBC Ratings are going up because of Presidential election. I read this about MSNBC ratINGS for the month of March:
During March 2016, one of the hottest political months in years, all of MSNBCs primetime shows saw significant growth over March 2015. The Rachel Maddow Show grew 133% in A25-54 and beat CNNs regular programming in total viewers (1,318,000 vs. 1,180,000). The Last Word with Lawrence ODonnell also beat CNNs regularly scheduled shows in total viewers (1,111,000 vs. 1,050,000) and grew 130% in A25-54 over March 2015. Hardball with Chris Matthews grew 79% in A25-54 and 45% in total viewers and All In with Chris Hayes grew 128% in A25-54 and 75% in total viewers for the month

(1,217 posts)read the exact opposite. Will do a search and if I can locate it will post it--

(417 posts)I only saw this article because Chris Hayes was bragging about it on his improved ratings on his twitter feed, which I follow. Hope you can post it.

(1,217 posts)find the one I remembered but I did find this from the googles and it's older data.
I wonder how exactly they do their research. I've been surveyed by Nielsen the last few years and try hard to get AJAM and FSTV out there as much as I can...simply cannot watch MSNBC at all anymore but have to go with CNN on election nights.
Anyway, I appreciate your post and it is sickening to know people are listening to them--still..
In total viewers for primetime, Fox News Channel (1.829 million, up 3% vs. last year) again outdrew its rivals combined. CNN, which spiked 38% vs. last year, finished second with 730,000 viewers leapfrogging MSNBC, whose 596,000 viewers was down 1% year over year.
On a total-day basis, Fox News Channel led with 209,000 viewers in the adults 25-54 demo, down 3% from last year. CNN grew by 19% to 151,000, and was followed by another riser, HLN (122,000, up 15%). MSNBC fell to just 91,000 viewers in the demo, a decline of 17% vs. last year.

(417 posts)I am a recovering news junkie (worked at newspapers/magazines for most of my working life), a hard habit to break during an election year. When MSNBC started their evolution it made me curious about the actual cable ratings for all these networks... but discovered that the data was almost impossible to discern. In fact, TVNewser (link in my OP) was pretty much the only site that discussed ratings on a regular basis. Unfortunately it appears to be a Faux News-related operation (exactly how I am not clear) so reading it on a regular basis is at-your-own-risk. Lots of blowing the horn of Fox's #1 status. Nevertheless they feature current cable ratings for their comperition.
Frankly I'm shocked the new format has served them so well. SMH. As other posters have noted, this could be election-grounded. Guess we will see after the elections if it holds. In the meantime, it's FSTV, Al Jazeera (while it lasts), BBC, etc. None of which are on top of events during the day, but at least present news not Trumpcentric.
Thanks again, and if you discover new info, please do post it.
