Here is what I'm struggling with when it comes to voting D no matter what...

If the Rs nd D's can count on the Rs running crazy as fuck against the D's not quite so bad resulting in the D's being pulled rightward, why would the Rs ever stop running the worst candidate ever in the history of elections? Why would the Dems ever shift back left? If the Dems can count on the left's blind, unquestioning , fealty, why would they ever move the party back to the left when they are working so hard to show me they don't want to do that?

This is not as cut and dry as many of you think.

IMO, you've got it backwards. The far left is so unreliable ecstatic May 2016 #5

Readers just wait! My crystal ball predicts Trump will change his tune eventually and claim all media, except truly fair and balanced Fox News shows lied about his previous quotes. He will keep his racist, sexist base, no matter what happens.

They WON'T, until we force them to do so. The Democratic 'Party' is the establishment, and no establishment gives up it's position voluntarily.

with regard to voting that they've made themselves irrelevant. Why would the party cater to people who rarely vote?

and I still haven't ever gotten exactly what I want. However, I have always known that my real choice is to be either a participant or a spectator.

Personally, I have recommended to some people that I've known that they should not get deeply involved in politics because it is simply too stressful for them. And, I'm talking about people on both the right and the left. They just cannot figure out why everyone else does not see things as they see them, but they know that the reason cannot be legitimate. No, it must be that the system is fixed and that others are being manipulated by devious zillionaires lurking behind hidden screens. Often, they blame the political or economic system for all of their problems and genuinely believe that if their proposals were implemented, the grass would become more green, the sky more blue and someone would discover their genius and offer them a job. These are people who should stay the hell out of politics. These are people who should develop other talents which they can sell in the market. Or, they should take up music or art or anything which will not drive them as crazy as politics.

If you get half of what you want in politics, it's a miracle.

No matter how you cut it, the Rs are winning at the moment. The country is peeling to the right.
There's really no way to stop it right now.
We'll have to suffer for awhile but have hope that there will be another shift back to the left someday.

The thing is that if Trump wins that shift back to the left may be a lot longer in coming or never come at all.
Your options are to support the D, whoever it is, and hope for a better future someday or not support them on principal and risk a fascist future and complete loss of a future leftward shift.
