Dalai Lama Thinks Europe Has Let In 'Too Many' Refugees

The Dalai Lama said that "from a moral standpoint" he thinks refugees should "only be accommodated temporarily" — with the goal of them returning home to rebuild their countries.

Germany took in over 1 million refugees last year from war-torn countries such as Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan over the past year.

The influx of migrants and refugees has led to a spike in anti-foreigner sentiment in Germany.

I agree with his point. Europe just cannot bear the burden alone in taking in so many people. I don't know about his point regarding their return home; I agree with the sentiment behind it, I'm just not sure how that would be financially possible and also how many refugees would be willing to go back to their homelands. What do you all think?

1. Most of those refugees can't return to

their home countries, just as the Dalai Lama cannot return to his.

He's been welcomed nearly everywhere else, though. Seems like he could be a bit more generous of spirit.

What those refugees would face were they to return would not favorably underscore the Dalai Lama's instinct for spiritual charity, IMO.

He does not want Arabs to permanently stay in other people's home-country and make it their's.
Just as he does not want Chinese to permanently stay in other people's home-country and make it their's.

8. Then perhaps he should return to Tibet to work on throwing the Chinese out

and returning Tibet to independence. He and his followers have set up camp in India for decades.

If he expects all these refugees to return home he should be setting a good example by doing it himself.

Speaking of which:
The chinese government has proclaimed that THE CHINESE BUREAUCRACY decides who becomes the next Dalai Lama when this one dies.
And purely out of coincidence, the chinese government kidnapped the Panchen Lama, the highest ranking Lama after the Dalai Lama, in 1995 and installed their own choice as the new Panchen Lama.

Do you know what would happen to the Dalai Lama if he returned to Tibet?
He would be imprisoned and forgotten.
Just as the chinese population has little to no idea what the Tiananmen-massacre was.
Just as people have already forgotten the kidnapping of the Panchen Lama.
Just as the chinese government is trying to erase from history the famine and the millions of deaths that were caused by Mao.

How would this "forgetting" work?
This is China.
If you speak about an inconvenient topic, you will be denounced as sowing discord.
If you continue to speak out, they simply throw you in jail and ruin your life.
We are not talking about a country with an independent justice-system here.
We are talking about a country with massive ever-penetrating censorship.
A country whose political and administrative structure has been penetrated from bottom to top by corrupt oligarchic and neo-aristocratic cabals.
A country where the courts have the explicit mandate to further the political goals of the communist party.

China has made plans to install a database to register, control and punish every single citizen, "1984"-style. The only thing that is holding them back is technical difficulties.

15. He would have just as much luck

as the same people that he wants to send back to the countries they fled. He above everybody else should understand why these people fled. If he is not prepared to return to Tibet he has NO RIGHT to expect the refugees to return to their countries. I would expect better things from him. He is playing the do as I say not as I do game.,

3. It doesn't take a spiritual leader to tell us the obvious.

The way I see it, The Dalai Lama is rightfully concerned that Europe will be islamicized, and that religious violence will only increase. Buddhists seem a lot more peaceful and tolerant than some of the other religions in question.

6. One might ask the Dalai Lama - When are you going to return

to Tibet? How long will he continue to use India as a refuge? The fact that he himself is a refugee kind of makes him look like a hypocrite. If the massive amounts of refugees were Buddhists instead of Muslims would he hold the same position?

One could make the case that he's a bit of a hypocrite, but he could also be having psychic visions of disasters and violence.
I'd like to hear more about what prompted him to make a statement like that.

5. If the conditions that caused the refugees to flee their

homes in the first place have not changed I don't know how you can expect them to return to "rebuild their countries". But I agree that it is not sustainable for other countries to continue to take in vast numbers of refugees.

It is a problem with no easy solution.

trying to dictate what all these othere desparate people should do. Talk about being a hypocrite. He should be far more understanding.
