SCOTTVILLE, MI A student at Mason County Central High School claims he was banned from school because of a Confederate flag mounted on his truck.
However, the district's superintendent Jeffrey Mount said it was the flag that was banned, not the student.
He added that the student Travis Barrette, hasn't been attending classes at the school since March, but comes to the grounds to pick up a family member ...
Mount said Barrette has not been suspended or expelled from the school but simply chooses not to come to class, only attending classes at the Mason County Career Tech Center at West Shore Community College in the afternoons ...

(2,841 posts)dude is still a loser for carrying that flag around. Not surprised though, Mason county is in the western part of MI which has quite a lot of hicks.

(3,812 posts)it had better learn to get away from using slurs like 'hick.' Whether you agree with someone or not, starting with deliberate insults insures that they'll never consider your position under any circumstances. You wonder why people vote against their own interests, and how so many Red states are lost to progressives? This is why. Urban progressives genuinely don't like white, rural, working class people, and white, rural, working class people recognize it and act accordingly.

(37,748 posts)Many working class, blue collar workers in TX are happy with the term 'hick', myself included-- a term of endearment we often use. However, if you have objective, peer-reviewed evidence to the contrary, I'd be more than happy to look at it.

(3,812 posts)A term of endearment or a deadly insult. I'm sure you can think of other words with flexiible meaning like that. Those words would be grounds for an instant ban on DU, and deservedly so. In broader terms I mean the offhand disparaging of entire groups, which is OFTEN seen on DU. That is not how you win people to your side. Not every white person is Mississipi or Kansas is a racist or a bigot, yet they will not even consider listening to progressive arguments. Why is that? Maybe progressives should do some soul searching.,
