Anti-Semitic Trump fans built this creepy internet app to mark and stalk Jews online

If you’ve ever encountered some of Donald Trump’s rabid “alt-right” supporters on the web, you know that they really relish attacking Jewish people with anti-Semitic slurs and images. Mic.com noticed this week that some alt-right Trump fans created an incredibly creepy browser extension for Google Chrome whose purpose is to mark and track Jewish people online and make them targets of anti-Semitic harassment.

The “Coincidence Detector” extension, which was just removed from the Chrome store by Google this week, marked Jewish journalists and reporters with an “echo” tag that consists of three parentheses on both sides of their names. So if you were using the extension and reading an article by Mic’s Cooper Fleishman, you would see his name as “Cooper (((Fleishman)))” to single him out as Jewish.

The “echo” tag is a reference to the neo-Nazi notion that “all Jewish surnames echo throughout history” — that is, they believe Jewish people are responsible for myriad conspiracies over the centuries designed to extinguish the white race.

2. I wonder how widespread this is in Trump's personal ideology

I've been very concerned about what I see in Trump -- and speaking of historic echoes, his blatant fascism and racism. The ideas of "rounding up Mexicans in a very humane way," and forbidding entry to Muslims are extremely creepy to anyone raised after WW II. I haven't heard (could have missed it) explicit anti-Semitism/code from Trump himself, but it just doesn't seem far off, and in fact a member of my family pretty much quoted "First they came for..." and said he felt like the Jews were next on Trump's agenda, and as someone whose parents were Holocaust survivors... he feels it strongly enough that despite his conservative politics he's going to vote for Hillary.

It seems this (((crap))) is about much more than just the kind of people DT attracts, but comes from him.

And we've got a few DUers hanging around who claim HRC is just as "dangerous" as DT. That's insane.

nurtured and protected by their cohort here. More than one has admitted to antisemitic baiting and said 'I hate them' and guess what? DU thinks that OK, or many do. The posters remain, bashing the minority persons they have admitted to holding bigotry and hate for. Same as on Team Trump.
