Proving once again that "holding conservative values" is just shorthand for "being a massive, sociopathic fucking asshole"

Cassius Clay was a skilled, great boxer, but failure to to enlist in the US military when the call was made is black cloud on his character

Dutiful, patriotic, brave black and white men died in jungles while Cassius sat warm and cozy in USA

Ok to rejoice when conservative Supreme Court J dies; not ok to question Clay's character? #tcot #RedNationRising

In 5/67, Cassius Clay was indicted for refusal to be drafted into the armed forces. The S Ct reversed lower Ct conviction on technicality

So, @RepMartinDaniel we can infer that you think @RealDonaldTrump's "failure to enlist" is also a "black mark"?
@KeithOlbermann 4h4 hours ago
And by the way, @RepMartinDaniel his name was Muhammad Ali and you're a racist clown unfit to represent parakeets.

(4,281 posts)I loved him. (And so, eventually, did my funny sweet little mother). After he told the truth about those horrible wars against brown people, speaking as Martin Luther is said to have done, saying he could not do otherwise, put him in jail, I thanked God for him.

(4,281 posts)Didn't he deliberately flunk the IQ test for induction into the army? And I wonder how many young men he gave the courage, showing them the way, to do something like that? How many lives did he save that way?
I am sorry if this offends some men who bravely served in that war. If you honorably did your best, then I honor you for that. But so many men from my generation, of all races, were killed in that war, and so many people of all ages in Vietnam, I just cry when I think about it! And here this man stood up against the entire war machine and said, "My conscience won't let me do that. Just put me in jail."
gratuitous
(82,849 posts)Born in 1956, he was too young to go to Vietnam, and in fact never had to register with Selective Service. But that doesn't stop him from criticizing someone else's stand nearly 40 years after the event, after the man has died, and then whines about getting some backlash for his churlish ways.

(82,849 posts)There was a window of about two years at the end of Vietnam. Both my brother and I slipped into that gap when men didn't have to register. It looks like the Tennessee State Senator was in the same gap, which makes his criticism that much higher on the prickitude scale.
