Young voters to DC: We don’t need you

Morgan Bettes started her downtown music-promotion company 11 months ago armed with business savvy and a lot of hope. She’s not relying on government policy, nor the outcome of the November election, to give her much help.

“I probably should be thinking about that, but I don’t,” said Bettes, who’s 27.

Just like so many others in her generation. Unlike their parents, younger people don’t regard Washington — or their presidential votes in the fall — as an important force behind their economic well-being.

“I don’t think the presidential race has anything to do with economics anymore,” said Tifini Hill, 36, a financial systems administrator from Brandon, Fla., near Tampa.

The youth WILL NOT vote for the lesser of two evils. They simply don't play that game. They don't view politics that way.

Most millennials do not feel they owe any loyalty to a political party or even to a political ideology. Many are all over the map politically and may feel neither party represents their true beliefs.

If the election is between Trump and Hillary, and neither candidate motivates the youth....the youth will sit out or vote for 3rd party. They don't have any hesitation doing that. And saying, "Hillary will at least be better than Trump!" won't work. That kind of talk will fall on deaf ears.

Had a climate science denier just today post that he didn't care because "climate change doesn't affect him."

This is a bad attitude. In fact, I think small businesses should be very worried about the corporate takeover and start fighting against it while there is still hope we can defeat it. They will be no friend of yours. I've been around a while. Yes, what happens in Washington DC resonates across the country and affects people everywhere, whether you recognize it or not.
