Donald Trump's statement concerning Judge Curiel

Earlier today, Donald Trump released a lengthy statement about his perspective on Judge Gonzalo Curiel who is adjudicating the civil law suit concerning Trump University. Here is a link to Talking Points Memo's Editorial Blog which includes the statement:

What interests me is that if he has concerns about the judge's impartiality, there are legal steps he could take to obtain relief if it's appropriate. But neither Mr. Trump nor his lawyers have taken any of these steps. Accordingly, all Mr. Trump is doing is bitching in the media. I doubt this will endear Mr. Trump to Judge Curiel but I also suspect that the judge is more than a little wiser and smarter than the Defendant.

There are some very specific reasons for recusal; for example: expressing an extrajudicial opinion on the case; having a financial interest in the outcome; having acted as an attorney (or a family member acted as an attorney) in the case or for one of the parties. None of those things are present. Also, in general they'd have to have made the motion before the judge ruled on any motion. Trump's lawyers must no damn well they have no basis for to disqualify this judge. I'd hate to be Trump's lawyer; he must be the original Client From Hell.

To my mother's regret, I'm not a lawyer but the logic and concepts of precedence interest me.

I agree with you about his lawyers: their client must make them crazy. Of course, the more crap he spews, the more they get paid to clean it up.

Trump DID NOT retract his words about Judge Curiel. He DID NOT retract his views on Muslim judges. He unilaterally decided that his racism should not be talked about.

There's so much ammunition about Donald Trump that I can't wait to watch the blitzkrieg against this monster.

8. His Statement Fails to Identify Any Evidence of Justified Animus Toward The Judge

he just said it wasn't national origin or ethnicity-there is one sentence which says QUESTIONS are raised about political organizations of the Judge without any EVIDENCE establishing a basis for recusal

"questions were raised regarding the Obama appointed Judge’s impartiality. It is a fair question. I hope it is not the case."

He doesn't even state whether he believes the QUESTIONS raised have substance or whether the evidence establishes prejudice, impropriety or even an appearance of impropriety

So WHAT is it?
