horrible news.
here's a link. And please, can we stay away from the Florida jokes.
My thoughts are with the victims, their families friends and yes, the first responders.

Edited to remove reference to there being 2 gunmen. Too much confusion. Too much unknown.

(6,342 posts)According to CNN, there are unconfirmed reports that there is still an ongoing hostage situation.

(53,339 posts)We can confirm this is a mass casualty situation. Support from local/state/federal agencies. We expect to brief media shortly.

(15,445 posts)gun-related massacre?
I have no statistics to cite, but I'd bet things were never this bad even in the gun-totin', hard-drinkin' wild west.
Makes sense. They didn't have mutli-magazine assault rifles, although everybody was "open-carrying".

agree
even more so if you belong to the gay community

(3,967 posts)I agree
and you know the gunman really believed in some sort of cause
and that he was doing a good thing
and there are some really twisted people who would agree with him
and the biggest terrorist threat to the nation is domestic terrorism
and that our federal and local agencies should treat them as the threat they are
and that this should be reported for what it is in the news

(3,967 posts)The FBI, along with numerous other agencies, was investigating the shooting and it was not clear if it was an act of domestic or foreign terrorism.
Orlando Police Chief John Mina said the department was currently working to remove any "devices" the shooter may have left behind.

(N.B. The Telegraph is generally reasonably good on factual accuracy, but it's a firmly right-wing publication so treat its comment and analysis with extreme caution).

(29,148 posts)not any firm assertion that there is a close connection with Islamic terrorism. Perhaps the Telegraph has changed their story since you initially linked, but right now it's just speculation that it could be domestic and it could be Islamic:

Police went in to rescue hostages
Gunman had assault rifle, handgun
Multiple people dead inside...
At least 42 transported to hospitals..
Edit - Sheriff said it was certainly considered an act of domestic terrorism.

(8,554 posts)fucking terror
I'm terrified and I'm sitting on the opposite end of the country.
Just got physically ill after I got up and turned on the tv. What sort of person carries that much hate against people they don't even know, have never even met, to just walk in a place and murder as many innocents as they can?
Three hours people were hiding, scared for their lives, before any rescue came. Three hours the wounded lay bleeding and dying on the floor. God, I'm sick of this hate.

(8,554 posts)since he had plenty of weaponry and ammo on him...what was he doing during that time? The hostage situation lasted for up to three hours before cops finally moved in on the guy.

(13,616 posts)Trump and Al-Baghdaddi of Daesh a.k.a Isis are very much alike in that they encourage violence of their supporters, then act like you cannot blame them for stoking up the environment that encourages violence. When Trump profits from violence, he only encourages those who also profit from it, namely these domestic Daesh whose "Islamic studies" mainly consisted of a bucnh of bad You Tube Videos made by someone in hiding, just like their brothers in spirit, the "white power" movement.
IT says a lot about Trump and Daesh that they both targeted Gays, and targeted Latinos. They are both of the same father, Lucifer, who, according to Islamic myth, rebelled against God because he and many other angels did not want to stoop to serving Mankind. This will not be the first or last, especially as those who also profit from violence, the gun makers, have pretty much made sure that it is easier to boy a military grade weapon in Florida than it is to buy a car. There is plenty of blood for everyone's hands, bt sadly, those who Lucifer loves best know how to turn that blood into fuel.
But it is because of events like this that Trump needs to have a leash round his neck. For that matter, many of those self-declared "liberals" whose attitudes about Latinos, Gays, are not that different from Trump need one too.
