Just a tool he chose to carry out his murderous intention.

This crime could *not* have occured without the root problem (desire to kill people)

This crime *could* have occured without guns, and may have been worse, for example ifna bomb was used.

Gunman didn't have a criminal record, had a concealed weapon permit, and was registered to vote as a Democrat. Pretty common for reporters to look up all the background they can on a suspect.

In the mentioned area affect, indiscriminate, high explosive weaponry you mentioned, and a small caliber rifle which fires one bullet per pull of a trigger?

If not, I'm afraid we're too far apart on this to speak rationally. Been a gun guy my whole life, but I've never met a single person who advocated civilians posessing high explosives. It's a ridiculous strawman.

That weapon is designed to have a magazine attach right in front of the trigger assembly.

In addition, neither one of those weapons can easily be altered for automatic fire. I suppose you could do it, but you'd have to be a metalworking genius, and have access to parts that are very tightly regulated by the ATF.

...this is an absolutely tragic and horrible crime. The people who commit these crimes are the one responsible. It leaves me hollow having some useless wretch destroy so many lives and then kill himself. There is no one to arrest or ask why or lock away and lose the key.

I get that when these miserably disgusting events happen, a common response is to look for causes and more people to hold responsible. IMO blaming the gun is just a distraction.

Both of those guns accept a magazine. AFAIK the Orlando dirt bag didn't use a full auto (modified or not) and they both fire at exactly the same rate. They both fire as fast as you can pull the trigger, one shot per pull.

Butt???

Gun control would have done nothing in this case. Even under a more restrictive system, he would have had access to significant weaponry.

Sounds like a failure of the federal background check system.

And unless he was convicted of a crime or had a domestic abuse related restraining order, he was legally permitted to own guns.
If his wife or other family had pressed charges or gotten a restraining order, his guns would have been removed. But they didn't.
