What is an assault weapon?

Who the fuck CARES what an assault weapon is.

Here's how I see it. Guns that look nasty are generally in the assault weapon category. Or maybe more properly, assault weapons all look nasty.

How about this as a way to describe them and the psychosis* that makes some people covet them:

HARD ON GUNS

or maybe a bit more primly and properly:

ERECTION WEAPONS

Its all part of the sad gun culture. Ballistic nylon holsters. Hip clips (or whatever the fuck you call them). Cargo pants in camo patterns as weekend wear at the Little League field.

Nothing more than a shitload of false machismo that pathetic little people can wear as fashion.

Meanwhile, we all know the NRA is shucking you rubes and dupes for all you're worth. They whip you into a frenzy over the notion that the evil lefties want to grab yer guns. The reality is, they only care about selling more guns, not about YOU. Your role is turn over more and more cash for increasingly sexy phallic symbols.

What a sad commentary on uncaring corporate greed preying on simple people.

What is an assault weapon? Its any weapon you buy as the NRA assaults your bank account.

No. The claim that someone did what you call a "Nomenclature handjob", is a tactic used by those who prefer to say nonfactual things, and don't like being called on it. It is hurled at anyone that attempts to correct such misinformation, regardless of how many guns they own, or what kind of guns they are.

"One of the amazing features is all you have to do is change the upper receiver to change the caliber of the rifle."

the AR platform is to rifles what the small block chevy is to hod rodding.

Because there are so many of them, volumes are large, and there are many manufacturers and rifles and parts are cheap.

Also there are lots of specialized parts available, since the market is large. So you can make an AR into what you want, from a large caliber hunting weapon to a small bore varmit gun.

just like the small block chevy that can be everything from a tow truck motor to a nascar race motor.

Jun 2016

Ban all semi-automatic/automatic weapons rifles.

Ban all weapons with greater than six shot capacity.

Ban any firearm under 30" in length.

One year grace period to turn them in for a tax credit.

Any "found weapons" (Granpa's old Webley in the attic) must be declared and turned over to police within 48 hours of discovery.

All surplus weapons that are so surrendered must be DESTROYED.

All firearms must be licensed and the license renewed every five years. Clean criminal record (including traffic violations, since if you can't be trusted with two tons of moving steel, you can't be trusted with a firearm).

"Accidentally" shooting yourself or someone else while handling/cleaning a firearm results in permanent revocation of your right to own a firearm. Failure to properly secure a firearm will also result in revocation.

All firearms must be chipped as a safety measure.

I've found I can conceal most anything in a good leather pancake holster. Sometimes I do pocket carry my LCP in a pocket holster...but you'll never catch me going IWB.

Safety first, poking a hole in me or dropping a PSD never...

Neither of which are a refutation of the fact that calls for more gun control sold more guns than the nra ever could.

Language is important.

Defining the term "assault weapon" is as important as defining the term "rape".

32. Is Tactical Gear sexy?
Fri Jun 17, 2016, 06:55 AM

Is a guy in Tactical Gear as sexy as a Guy in Fire Dept Turnout Gear?

If people thought Sexy was guys like Mr Rogers and Richard Simmons would guys wear Tactical Gear and Carry weapons looking like they belong on the battlefield? Perhaps if the perfect PinUp calendar for male sexuality was guys in Princess Dress taking their Neice to Frozen this wouldn't be such a problem.

Perhaps we need to consider that Gun Culture is a reflection of all of us, and to change it requires us to change.

36. The rate is actually an important aspect of self defense

Jun 2016

There are two reasons for this:
1. Unlike in the movies, when you shoot someone, they don't generally just fall over and die. If they have a gun in their hands, and you shoot them, they are going to shoot at you unless you hit a critical CNS area, or you cause a massive, rapid drop in blood pressure.
2. Shooting under pressure is really, really hard. I've done a lot of competition shooting, and just the stress of competition drops my accuracy. Add to that the adrenaline of a real life self defense situation (I wake up and my daughter is screaming because there is someone in the house), and my ability to place a round in exactly one of the critical areas in (1) goes way down.

A much better case can be made for limiting the number of rounds that can come out.

We do at some level already restrict the fire rate - automatic weapons are limited to law enforcement and military (and a few other scenarios involving ATF tax stamps).

Likely anyone trying to write or pass laws restricting them will care...or should.

And very sure all those who don't want "assault weapons" - whatever they turn out to be this time, being restricted will care.

So plenty of well-intentioned people will be happy to grasp with both hands for all those HARD ONs and ERECTIONS, righteous in their visions and condescending in their notions.

Happy until the next massacre when they realize the only dicks they were grabbing and stroking all along were their own, and they did nothing worthwhile.

I'm glad I don't have any imaginary "bad guy" friends always living in my head, the sort I might have to whip out my big gun and shoot some indefinite day, some indefinite circumstance.

I've interacted with many sorts of armed people, from cops to cowboys to sad little fourteen year olds who break into people's houses. I don't waste any mental energy on imaginary gunfights, I've witnessed a few real gunfights, and it's bangity-bang-bang and over before anyone knows what the hell just happened.

Self defense? What a pathetic fucking joke.

Bad guys shoot first.

Ronald Reagan was surrounded by well trained, well armed Secret Service men and he and Jim Brady and a Secret Service agent and a cop still got shot.

Piss on guns.

I feel comfortable stating this as I own both. Though my guns are not the sexy kind, very ho-hum that sit locked up and I actually despise showing them to people. My ride on the other hand ... penis!

If all men could similarly laugh at themselves, we'd be a lot better off (clearly Mateen couldn't.)

We just refuse to let lies go unchallenged, is all.

Glad you're able to amuse yourself. We'd be amused at the way that you undermine yourself if your tactics didn't undermine our ability to make true progressive changes in this country.

The "anti gunners" will never accept their share of responsibility for the paralysis that is dooming our nation.

It has a 10 round detachable magazine.

It has a scary looking scope on top.

It has a scary looking black synthetic stock.

And now...

The Rest of the Story:

It's her first gun; a .22 that will never be aimed at anything other than a paper target or plastic milk bottle filled with water. When she found out she could hit 10" paper plates from a hundred yards using my old 1930's era single-shot .22 with iron sights, she was hooked. When she found out she could get a .22 that would fire 10 shots before reloading AND had a scope, she said "Buy it". We'll pick it up Monday which is when the 10 day waiting period is over and the following Saturday she's convinced (and excited as hell) she will be able to hit stationary clay pigeons from the same distance.

Meets all the requirements of "assault weapon" though, don't it?

it's a hunting rifle, it has a 4 shot magazine which cannot be replaced with something bigger because there is a hinged plate on the rifle that holds the magazine in.

so a Browning Semi Auto II hunting rifle with it's 4 shot magazine goes on the "bad gun list" but an SKS with 10 round stripper clips is fine ?

Post after post complaining that the Sig he used should be illegal because it's too short, and these have exploded in popularity on the market since the ATF ruled that arm braces are kosher:

As far as the law is concerned, that's a handgun in every respect, so overall length is a nonissue.
