Sheriffs focus on Harney County (OR)

PENDLETON, Ore. – The occupation of the Malheur Wildlife Refuge in Harney County .. was discussed at a recent meeting of the Oregon State Sheriffs Association.

Umatilla County Sheriff Terry Rowan attended and he says one .. problem .. was how long it took federal officials in Washington, D.C. to make decisions on how to handle the siege, as opposed to the FBI agents and other law enforcement officials at the scene ...

Sheriffs throughout the state sent help to Harney County, but Rowan says OSSA wants to be able to react more quickly if a similar situation occurs in the future ...

... sheriffs also discussed .. the wait to get reimbursed .. for the resources they sent to respond to that emergency ...

1. County Sheriffs are usually elected. Many have no credentials to be in law enforcement.

The way it all came down was about as textbook as it comes. Deserted area that put nobody else in harms way. To have done otherwise would have lead to a lot of bloodshed. And when it was all done, the Bundy bunch would have all been dead and lived on as martyrs in the eyes of many. As it came down, they have exposed themselves to be a bunch of opportunists with little regard for anybody but themselves. Also about those sheriffs, many have openly supported groups like the Bundy's.
