all of those are regulated.
Pepper spray and tasers, too.
There are 800 different ways to kill you that are regulated the hell out of, but because it's a gun, you don't?
I swear this country has lost its damn mind.

(39,961 posts)it is interesting that you ask.
Hunting and fishing licenses exist.
jmg257
(11,996 posts)AH - to actually hunt - I see that edit now.
You typically need licenses to hunt with guns too.
Aerows
(39,961 posts)You do not have to have a license to own or use a bow.
To take animals while hunting, the state gives you permission through a license to kill designated game animals.

Yes, primitive weapons are outlawed in certain states, but hell rock the place with a gun!

Sounds dumb to me.
Of course NYC bans Big Gulps, although in fairness, diabetes kills over 75,000 people a year.

(11,996 posts)A person is guilty of criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree when:
or she possesses any firearm, electronic dart gun, electronic stun gun, gravity knife, switchblade knife, pilum ballistic knife, metal knuckle knife, cane sword, billy, blackjack, bludgeon, plastic knuckles, metal knuckles, chuka stick, sand bag, sandclub, wrist-brace type slingshot or slungshot, shirken or Kung Fu star;

No biggie, it was a nice try, and still a fun thread.

Except I am a decent human being, don't wish actively to kill people, and rendering this argument to semantics is idiocy of the worst kind.

(68 posts)It is illegal in every state to kill a person regardless of the kind of weapon used, whether gun, bow, knife, car, or anything else, with a few exceptions such a self-defense in instances of imminent serious bodily injury or death.

(1,031 posts)Can you link an example of someone being arrested for possession of anyone one of the things?
I certainly have all of them, somewhere. In a box in the attic, old trunk in the barn ... somewhere, I promise.
Ohh and I was born and raised in NY and my uncle now owns my grandmothers house and I promise you there is plenty of that old stuff there, somewhere, as well.
These items are now illegal to sell, but possession, surely not.

(688 posts)Don't have to do that with sling shots, bows, pepper spray, or tasers. I can buy them over the counter without the slightest bit of paperwork.
Not sure about switchblades.

(16,974 posts)Not once was state regulations mentioned. You said firearms are not regulated like the other things you mentioned. Classic bait and switch. Those items are much less regulated than firearms and you know it.
Aerows
(39,961 posts)Because plainly, set out by law, which is why I brought it up, those items are regulated on a state basis.
I'm not sure why you are knee-jerk reacting to my post, or thinking that I completely disagree with you.

(18,216 posts)a few states limit the size of the container or concentration but even if you violated that I am not aware of any state you would get more than a citation.
Aerows
(39,961 posts)but you can't get pepper spray shipped into certain states.
sarisataka
(18,216 posts)I believe are the only states that prohibit pepper spray from being shipped to a person.
Aerows
(39,961 posts)I couldn't remember which states restricted shipping of product to them.
sarisataka
(18,216 posts)and many states have age restrictions. It pays to check your laws before purchasing pepper spray for self defense.
Interestingly I discovered several states require you to have a concealed weapon permit to carry a slingshot concealed. 32 states allow some form of hunting with slingshots.
I think your OP is overly broad however is does highlight some incongruities where less-lethal weapons are over-regulated compared to more lethal weapons. It would be generally expected to see an increasing set of restrictions as the weapons become more lethal or at least more able to be used offensively but that is not always the case.
Aerows
(39,961 posts)I agree that incongruities are a burden of our laws.

(53,001 posts)as we saw in the presidential campaign. We have had NRA talking points about immunity for gun corporations passed off as "progressive." The Democrats that do care about it are lambasted as "establishment," whereas someone who votes against the Brady Bill, for arms on Amtrack, in national parks, in cockpits, and endless other pro-gun legislation is held up as superior to all other politicians. As long as people refuse to prioritize gun control, this is the situation we get.
