Question about the new rules

Are there any new rules regarding how post will be locked, will there be a way to question why a posted is locked. If a host locks a post for questionable reasons can that host be alerted.

There seems to have been a rise in agressive post on this site and I hope that the new rules will help us all engage in kinder discusion that promote positive interchange.

A lock may be appealed by messaging the locking host in DU Mail.

Until the new rules apply, post the question in GD-P where I can insult you, you insult me, we cross-alert on all posts, and everyone's happy.

But if your posts get hidden/locked/etc, you can always tweet #grovelbot.

8. Hosts generally act as a group

Members alert on a post and hosts post them in the hosting forum from the list of alerts.

You can PM the host that locked the post .... or any other host to ask why it was locked. You can state your rationale as to why you believe a post was within the statement of purpose for that forum and the host will bring it to the forum and offer hosts a chance to reconsider their vote or give hosts that didn't vote a chance to weigh in.

You can technically alert on a host locking message but it won't change the outcome and as I understand the new rules it won't be hidden and won't win you any friends.

One thing to keep in mind is that the locking host is usually just the host that posted the alert in the hosting forum (from the alert queue) and you have no idea how that host actually voted on the alert.

As an example .... I am currently serving as a host ... I posted two alerts from the queue last night. I did NOT vote to LOCK either post (in each case i was the only host in those two alert threads that did not vote to LOCK). the consensus of the hosts was to LOCK, so I ended up locking two threads that, if it had been up to me alone, would have been left. ... hosting is a group effort that tries to overcome the bias of one.

I am not saying that hosts have never gone rogue or that hosts (individually or as a group) don't make bad decisions .... just that in most cases the decision to lock a thread was arrived at by a group.

I had a post locked today where I was giving advice on how others see your post outside of the group you post in and one may want to keep that in mind. When I questioned the lock it was pointed out that I mentioned the name of another group and if I wanted I could repost without naming a group or candinate, but when I once again suggested that people may want to take care on how they post the headline in a group post since it will be seen by others not in the group on the latest list(this second post left out any names ) this post was also locked.

It saddens me that in an atempt to ask for a bit of mindfullness and carying about how others may reatact to a post you put up in a restricted group by some outside of that group who can not respond I am the one that gets locked. I hope tomarow things will improve and we can begain to start to heal wounds still open from this last year.

I am glad to here that the host will be doing their best

Good luck

... we all have biases that we try to overcome but we're human and make mistakes. Most hosts will try to explain why a post was locked and where you can post it or how you can post it to make it conform.

We're not on DU 24/7 so if you don't get an answer from the host that locked you can ask another host from the list. MOST hosts try real hard (and yes again.... we all make mistakes ... sometimes big, sometimes small).
