General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsIt's worth watching 'Morning Joe' this morning!
Joe Scar and the panel are ripping the RePubs a new one.
They are talking about the Democrat's House "sit-in" and the RePub leadership's response.
Scar was screaming that a few NRA goons in their Washington DC offices are pulling the strings and running things.
He can't believe that the Repubs won't even allow a vote. A vote on a bill that 90% of the American public approves of, including 85% of REPUBLICANS.
This morning, (at least on this issue) he and Nicole Wallace are ashamed to be RePubs!
They are already talking about the ads and bumper stickers to be made against 'down-ticket' RePub Congressional candidates: "MY OPPONENT STANDS WITH TERRORISTS"

I turned in just in time to hear Joe rant at Republican Congressman Tom Cole about the GOP obeying 4 top NRA leaders instead of etc., etc., and much else.
At one point he pushed Tom Cole into undermining his own argument of how terrible and riddled with mistakes the terrorist watch list by saying it's "almost everybody on that list is a foreigner, btw, and not able to to buy a firearm anyway," ( ) "we're actually talking about a fairly small population of Americans that are on the list." But he refused to be pushed into admitting the list could be properly administered, or "fixed" as Joe put it, even for the American citizens.

(4,113 posts)They can't even bring up a vote to prohibit people on a terror watch list from buying firearms? We have limits on our rights under the other amendments in the U.S. Constitution, but the gun Nazis don't even allow a whiff of gun legislation even though an overwhelming majority of Americans support it.
It all goes back to the obscene amounts of money in our political system.

(42,770 posts)percentage of gun purchasers, in the big scheme of things. But, the lobby demands 100% compliance. Why can't reasonable people say, "hey I am with you on 90%+ of what you want." Are they afraid that one domino will open the door ? Does the lobby say, "if you want a contribution, you must agree to back us all the way, or you will regret" ?

You have to whore yourself out to the NRA and the gun/ammo merchants or it costs you.

The Repubs are doing the bidding of the NRA, NOT what the majority of Americans want.

One would think that you are paid by the NRA.
Just because someone is paid for what they say doesn't mean it is ALL lies. EVERY single person in the media is paid.

(42,770 posts)amazingly seamless to me - must have great editors.
This all makes me wonder too - if two opposing sides spend lots of time together - like Joe and all the Dem leaning people on his show, do they all moderate to some degree? I have seen this with married couples with opposing views.

(1,089 posts)I couldn't sleep last night so I turned on the TV at around 3 a.m., just when this show was starting. I never watch it. I didn't last long, as they spent the first 10 minutes congratulating Drumpf for not pulling down his pants and throwing feces at the camera during his "speech" yesterday. That was all I could take.
Glad it got better.

(28,795 posts)him, gingrich, frank luntz, and Limbaugh have much to answer for
GOPAC tapes, etc:
http://fair.org/extra/language-a-key-mechanism-of-control/
Language: A Key Mechanism of Control.
....the clearest expression of Gingrichs philosophy of media came in a GOPAC memo entitled Language: A Key Mechanism of Control. Distributed to GOP candidates across the country, the memos list of words for Democrats and words for Republicans was endorsed by Gingrich in a cover letter: The words in that paper are tested language from a recent series of focus groups where we actually tested ideas and language. Next time you hear Gingrich complain about media focusing on the negative, refer back to these lists.
As you know, one of the key points in the GOPAC tapes is that language matters. In the video We Are a Majority, Langauage is listed as akey mechanism of control used by a majority party, along with Agenda, Rules, Attitude and Learning. As the tapes have been used in training sessions across the country and mailed to candidates, we have heard a plaintive plea: I wish I could speak like Newt. That takes years of practice. But we believe that you could have a significant impact on your campaign and the way you communicate if we help a little. That is why we have created this list of words and phrases.
This list is prepared so that you might have a directory of words to use in writing literature and mail, in preparing speeches, and in producing electronic media. The words and phrases are powerful. Read them. Memorize as many as possible. And remember that, like any tool, these words will not help if they are not used .
Contrasting Words
Often we search hard for words to help us define our opponents. Sometimes we are hesitant to use contrast. Remember that creating a difference helps you. These are powerful words that can create a clear and easily understood contrast. Apply these to the opponent, their record, proposals and their party.

I think the Trump phenomenon is telling us something, that being that the Repub base is not as large as they have been making out. Much like the "Moral Majority" of the 80's, they are neither.
