But defaulting on the U.S. debt and shutting down the government is perfectly fine.

The first time House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) tried to hear testimony from Lois Lerner, the former head of the IRS tax exempt division, she asserted her Fifth Amendment rights, as expected. Today, Issa brought Lerner back, knowing she wouldnt testify, but wanting to put on a little election-year show for the cameras anyway.
But as the above video makes clear, the interesting development wasnt Lerners decision not to testify, which everyone already knew would happen, but the heated confrontation between Issa and the committees ranking member, Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.).
For about 15 minutes, Issa, already well aware of the fact that Lerner wouldnt answer his questions, strutted for the cameras, pushing his favorite talking points about the discredited scandal.
When he was done, Issa decided to abruptly end the hearing. When Cummings sought an opportunity to speak, Issa invited everyone in attendance to leave. When Cummings proceeded anyway, Issa cut off the power to the congressmans microphone.

The Republicans have shown over and over that they are afraid to hold discussions about important topics. If they don't want to think about a subject, they just shut down any venue where discussion might occur.
Republicans are the definition of "disrespectful."

(28,498 posts)Clash With Leahy About Halliburton

A brief argument between Vice President Cheney and a senior Democratic senator led Cheney to utter a big-time obscenity on the Senate floor this week.
On Tuesday, Cheney, serving in his role as president of the Senate, appeared in the chamber for a photo session. A chance meeting with Sen. Patrick J. Leahy (Vt.), the ranking Democrat on the Judiciary Committee, became an argument about Cheney's ties to Halliburton Co., an international energy services corporation, and President Bush's judicial nominees. The exchange ended when Cheney offered some crass advice.
"Fuck yourself," said the man who is a heartbeat from the presidency.
Leahy's spokesman, David Carle, yesterday confirmed the brief but fierce exchange. "The vice president seemed to be taking personally the criticism that Senator Leahy and others have leveled against Halliburton's sole-source contracts in Iraq," Carle said.
As it happens, the exchange occurred on the same day the Senate passed legislation described as the "Defense of Decency Act" by 99 to 1.
Cheney's office did not deny that the phrase was uttered. His spokesman, Kevin S. Kellems, would say only that this language is not typical of the vice presidential vocabulary. "Reserving the right to revise and extend my remarks, that doesn't sound like language the vice president would use," Kellems said, "but there was a frank exchange of views."

(10,597 posts)... proves that they don't know the meaning of the word. There's only one Party that is disrespectful to the victims and family members of victims of all these mass shootings. That would be the NRA Republican Party. The War monger Republican Party. The Party of cold hearted sociopaths.

(8,217 posts)Disrespectful is what they call those who protest about injustice, when they do not wish to deal with the issue at hand.
I will leave it at that, as many do not seem to be able to look at the mirror as they applaud behavior that is more or less equal to what they have deplored prior.
