7. UK austerity had fuck-all to do with the EU; the UK has its own currency and doesn't use the Euro

it's not like Greece where the terms of a bailout were very harsh and imposed by the European Central Bank because Greece was in the Eurozone and had no choice because of lack of control of its own currency. Austerity in the UK is entirely down to the Tories.

and only because politicians have spent the past 80 or 90 years telling the working class they're "middle class" (the lack of class consciousness is one of the reasons that socialism never got anywhere in the USA). In the UK, "middle class" means "university-educated professional", generally. "Working class" is what you mean.
