Calais Tells Britain: 'Take Back Your Border'

Here is the frontline of what the British far Right were complaining about, starting to come back to bite them in the arse.

French politicians are demanding that Britain takes back its border after voting to leave the European Union.

The Mayor of Calais Natacha Bouchart said an immigration deal which allows Britain to check passports in France, preventing migrants from crossing the Channel, should be renegotiated.

Ms Bouchart told French broadcaster BFM TV: "The British must take on the consequences of their choice.

"We are in a strong position to push, to press this request for a review and we are asking the President to bring his weight (to the issue).

"We must put everything on the table and there must be an element of division, of sharing."

However, those remarks have now been contradicted by the French government.

Speaking after the referendum result, French government spokesman Stephane Le Foll said bilateral immigration treaties between Britain and France will not be affected by the Brexit.

"On the question of immigration, to be clear, British exit from the European Union will not lead to changes in terms of immigration treaties with United Kingdom... These are bilateral treaties," he said.

Or see:

The French foreign minister Jean-Marc Ayrault dismissed outright any calls for renegotiation of the Le Touquet accord. “Would that also mean putting in place boats for people who otherwise risk drowning? I think we should be serious,” he said in a TV interview.

Ayrault said other bilateral immigration treaties would also remain in place. He said additional important agreements between France and Britain, such as the 2010 Lancaster House defence and security treaties, would also be maintained.

As I remember, the U.S. has a "border" inside an airport in Bahamas. Immigration and customs not necessary on arrival in Miami.

The big impact might be the end of unchecked travel for drunken soccer hooligans. This could seriously impact the coffers of FIFA.

not thought about. The people of Calais are completely fed up of the immigrant situation that lands on their doorstep, they would be delighted to let them through to the UK.

p.s. there is a US border in Shannon and Dublin airports, in Ireland.

a Leave supporter....utterly bizarre ! Went on about all the laws an unaccountable EU parliament were passing "against them". This would "take back their country".

Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty has not been invoked yet. The French have to honor their agreement in the meantime. Period.
