The former CBS News anchor warns that there has been some media complicity in the candidates rise.
06/26/2016
Former CBS News anchor Dan Rather on Sunday had some words of advice and caution for journalists covering presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump.
Rather criticized cable news networks wall-to-wall coverage of the real estate mogul and warned that they may have been complicit in Trumps rise to the top of the GOP field.
What I worry about is, in a way, the media is a political partner, a business partner of Donald Trump, Rather said on CNNs Reliable Sources.
The media wants the ratings, he went on. Trump delivers the ratings. In a way, theyre business partners.

The Bill Of Goods.
Trump refer ed to his followers as his fans numerous times in interviews, there lies the key connection to the marriage between Trump & the media or the partnership.
The show of course must go on, and it would not be complete without the belle of the show.
A family affair.
And Gypse Rose Lee a lady ahead of her time who opened her ever famous show with the punch line,HELLO SUCKERS.
And in reverse you have Donald J. Trump and the punch line goes without saying and in his case it is not one dam bit funny.

(12,265 posts)Morning Joe was gushing over him for months. I still think they owe the Democratic Nominee equal time. It is crazy the love affair they have with this nut.
MSNBC even today was saying it is a tie when none of the polls indicate that to be the case. They need him in the race for ratings. Everyone tunes in to see what stupid thing he will say next. All those free commercials for TRUMP brand.

(5,754 posts)Free commercials. Folks will be sick of it soon. Even his stupid stuff is getting boring.

Good for Dan Rather!

(194 posts)And the winner is going to be who is disliked the least. I'm a reluctant Hillary supporter and its just disappointing. If she doesn't pick Elizabeth Warren its going to be a disappointing election for the majority of voters regardless of whoever wins.

(153,138 posts)there are plenty of people who will refuse to vote for a female president - Hillary knows this

(194 posts)there are definitely people who won't vote for a female president, that's right. But those are the same people who won't vote for an all female ticket. I think a Clinton/Warren ticket will get her the highest number of votes and ensure her victory. Even though to be quite honest, I don't see how she looses to Trump unless she is indicted or something regardless of who she picks.

(260 posts)It's been obvious from the outset that the media has wanted a Trump Vs. Hillary matchup and that this race is a lot closer than it should be because of it. If he manages to win or even lose by less than 15 points it's a direct result of how much coverage he's gotten. He's the absolute worst candidate in history (there have been other horrible people who've run, but no one so outrageously unqualified and just plain dumb).
I will never understand how Trump is being taken seriously (by anyone - forget the Right) as a potential President, and if I had to venture a guess, he probably feels the same way and never thought he'd make it this far. Even he is probably shocked at how gullible Republicans are.

(12,232 posts)of media here.
Rather, who was reporting a story that was true, was set up to be forced out of major media coverage.
Williams, who admittedly lied, was slapped on the hand and bought back into the fold, in cable rather than network, but still on many screens.
Once again, Rather is correct, which is why he was targeted.
