About 9.4% of the Chinese labor force is employed in manufacturing, compared to about 9.2% in the US. Meanwhile in India, only about 5 million people are employed in manufacturing (less than half of the absolute number employed in manufacturing in the US).

What's really interesting is that we manufacture pretty much exactly as much as China does, with that much smaller workforce.

They tend to be small and focus on labor intensive tasks. The focus isn't really to make goods as efficiently as possible, but rather to make them as inefficiently as possible to employ the greatest number of people.
