(1,048 posts)Its July. By the end of the convention this becomes less of a story. By September/October its even less so. I'm actually glad that if this was going to happen it was BEFORE the convention and not AFTER. Provides us with a reset. Bigger story is Ben Jealous supporting Hillary now that DWS is out. Bloomberg endorsing Hillary. Michelle Obama's speech. Obama, Biden, Warren out on the trail. Yes this is a big story but the appropriate steps are being taken to extinguish it and move on.

(65,616 posts)I know republican women that for the very first time in their lives are going to vote for the Democratic candidate. Trump has truly alienated MOST voters with his bombastic persona. He cannot even be nice to his loyal followers! Negative charisma won't draw in the numbers.
Having said that, I agree they better not screw this up. The only way imo HRC can lose is if the DC Insiders fuck this up for her. BS crew already said they are on board and any BS supporter saying they will vote for Trump - never meant to vote Democratic imo.

(65,616 posts)HRC won by standing up to the punks in Congress and brushing off every single lie and garbage gossip the media threw at her and proved to be tougher then steel.
BS doesn't even enter into the equation, you can take all of Trump and Cruz and the rests numbers and put them up against HRC and they don't even out. That is without a single BS vote.
I have to disagree, HRC has never looked more ready for the WH.
Sen. Walter Sobchak
(8,692 posts)It is not generally socially acceptable in any circle anyone here travels in to express racist or sexist opinions and certainly not express support for Donald Trump. But it is naive to think there isn't wide unspoken support for much of Trump's bullshit.
Rex
(65,616 posts)And that is why I am so surprised by the visceral hatred of Trump, granted where I live the population is mostly Hispanic. Cruz helped turn off a lot of republicans in this area, as soon as Trump started in on Mexico he lost most of the South.

(15,365 posts)But it seems to be very important to some to "punish" DWS because (fill in the blank).
I'm no fan of DWS for many reasons. But after seeing the crap posted by so many on DU about her during the primary season, I found myself rooting for her. I believe that she did the right thing in resigning because the same people who hated her during the primary will continue to hate on her no matter what she does. At least now, she should not distract from the Convention itself.
But in my own little rebellion against tactics that I have found abhorrent principally because the same vitriol has been directed at Hillary herself, I have contributed to DWS's campaign. And any crap I get on DU in response to my posts about that will cause me to contribute more.
I thank DWS for resigning because SHE does see the Big Picture in this election. Some still don't. But MANY MANY more do. They have their priorities in the right places and that is why we will win in November.

(28,795 posts)trumpkin screechers. this election, as always, will be decided by what the media chooses to cover, and for how long.
best examples in recent memory: bush AWOL and Kerry Swiftboating
those two fiascoes gave bush the votes necessary to keep the election close enough to let him steal it.
anybody surprised at how all trump scandals either are not covered, or have a one or two day shelf life?
what about the fricking sexual ASSAULT charges, all three of which have been SWORN to in legally binding statements, subject to PERJURY charges.

(24,391 posts)This is really nothing compared to the RNC dumpster fire IMHO. And it looks like what happened with the emails are being addressed with DWS' resignation, so why exactly should it harm us in the long run? Some Sanders supporters aren't going to be appeased unless Bernie is nominated but there's no way that that's happening. At least the DNC is bending over to help ameliorate the situation.

(8,692 posts)But I think we have a serious problem with republican provocateurs that are playing the extreme left like a fine musical instrument.
I just don't believe that progressive millennials are independently reviving the right wing's favorite tropes of the 1970's right on cue, all the while enthusiastically attacking Democrats.
What an absurd statement...

(15,429 posts)Every election the extreme left threatens to sit it out.
Every time we lose, the extreme left must be blamed because they claimed to be sitting it out, thus the party must move to the right to compensate for an unreliable extreme left.

Except for the timing, it's really a positive development. We have finally gotten rid of DWS and we can make sure the DNC has better leadership in the future - thanks to this publicity.
Trump's people were hoping we would split right down the middle over this, Bernie people vs Hillary people, because that could give him the numbers he needs to win.
We should not be complying with his wishes. Bernie knows this. Trump is already tweeting angrily because Bernie didn't react the way he wanted.

(2,988 posts)I'm deeply confused by my American FB friends who are acting like they have this awful choice in front of them. It seems pretty easy to me. Do you want a bigot who wants to leave NATO and let Russia steamroll Eastern Europe and roll back all women's rights and gay rights or someone who will pretty much keep things moving along the path Obama established? I am not sure what's so hard about that choice.

(67,757 posts)Cleaning up a mess means a disruptive time while the scrubbing and scraping, and rearranging, and tras hauling gets done. And the n there's the time needed to bring in new supplies and furniture and drapes and blinds. After that there is the time needed to make all the new stuff your own.
No one does that on the day before 32 relatives will at your house for Thanksgiving. You do that well in advance. You do that when the disruption can be managed.
What is going on now is not the least fucking bit helpful. The risk is far too great.
What would it hurt to start the housecleaning on November 9th or 10th or 20th?
Really. What would it hurt?
The current disruption is at best quixotic and at worst, Trumpenabling.
